7 International Players Playing US College Soccer

The women’s college soccer season is in full swing. We take a look at some international players playing college soccer in the United States.

Emma Clark, Houston

Clark has been a key piece for the Cougars on the backline since her freshman season. The senior has played 5,848 minutes in her career and 713 minutes on the season.

The defender is from New Zealand and has represented her country at the youth level. 

 

Louise Lillback, Florida Gulf Coast 

Lillback is a junior from Stockholm, Sweden. The forward is coming off of a big 2021 season for the Eagles. Last season she was the ASUN Player of the Year and named to the All-ASUN First Team.

She has 29 goals in 53 career games, second most all-time for FGCU. Lillback has three goals on the season so far. 

 

Roma McLaughlin, Central Connecticut State

McLaughlin has been a star in the midfield for the Blue Devils throughout her college career in the United States. She’s appeared in 67 games for CCU as a midfielder. McLaughlin has 27 goals and 13 assists so far in her career. The midfielder was also named to the Mac Hermann Trophy watch list this season. 

The Irish international has represented Ireland at both the youth level and the senior level. 

 

Nicole Douglas, Arizona State

Douglas is one of the top forwards in the country and has been terrific for Arizona State. The fifth-year senior has already found the back of the net eight times in five matches this season and has been named to the MAC Hermann Trophy watchlist.

In her career, she’s started all 76 matches she’s appeared in, tallying 54 goals and 19 assists. 

The England native played for Chelsea before coming to the United States to play collegiately. She has also represented the England National team at the youth level but does not have a senior cap yet. 

 

Heather Payne, Florida State

The junior at Florida State earned her first senior cap for Ireland in 2017 after being part of the youth teams from the U15 squad up to the U19s. She’s currently made 29 appearances for the Ireland Women’s National Team.

For the Seminoles, she appeared in 46 matches, starting 30 of them. In 2019, she was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team. She was also part of the 2021 National Championship-winning Florida State squad. 

 

Amy Sayer, Stanford

Sayer is in her third year at Stanford after coming to play collegiately from Sydney, Australia. 

The defender played in 29 games during her first two seasons and was named to the All-Pac-12 Freshman Team. This season she’s played in eight matches for the Cardinals and has tallied three goals. 

 

Jody Brown, Florida State

The forward is currently a junior at Florida State. So far in her collegiate career, she’s appeared in 47 games scoring ten goals and 14 assists.

She earned her first senior cap with the Jamaican Women’s National Team at the age of 16 in 2018 after representing Jamaica at the U15, U17, and U20 levels. Brown was also part of Jamaica’s 2019 Women’s World Cup roster.
