9 College Team Captains You Need to Follow This Season

Being a team captain is a special honor as the players chosen must show excellent leadership skills and determination. The players lead by example and sit the standard on and off the field daily for their teams.

As the college season just kicked off, we look at nine womenโ€™s college soccer captains at the Division I, II, and III levels.ย

DI

Rebecca Jarrett- UVA

The forward was named a team captain alongside midfielder Emma Dawson.

Jarrett is entering her fifth season with Virginia, coming off a season-ending injury at the beginning of the 2021 season. So far in her career, sheโ€™s appeared in 71 matches, tallying 20 goals and 16 assists. This season sheโ€™s already found the back of the net twice.ย

Ally Schlegel – Penn State

The Nittany Lions are expected to have a big season, and theyโ€™ll be led by their three captains; Maddie Myers, Ally Schlegel, and Jill Jennings.ย 

Schlegel, a redshirt senior, is a star forward for Penn State. Sheโ€™s had a successful college career appearing in 58 games with a total of 30 goals and 16 assists entering the fall season.ย

In 2021 she was named a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist and Big Ten Forward of the Year. In addition, she was just named to the 2022 MAC Hermann Trophy watchlist.ย 

 

Gracie Brian – TCU

Brian is entering her senior season with TCU as the Horned Frogs are looking to defend their 2021 Big 12 Championship. The midfielder has started all 65 games of her career with 21 goals and 21 assists so far. Last season she was named a 1st Team All-Big 12 selection.ย

Megan Dahl – Bemidji State

Dahl has been a massive part of the Bemidji State defense for four seasons. Sheโ€™s started all 65 matches sheโ€™s appeared in, playing a total of 5.454 minutes so far entering the 2022 season. Last season she was named the NSIC Defensive Player of the Year.ย

Kayla Argen – Kutztown University

Argen is entering her third season as team captain of this Kutztown team. The midfielder has appeared in 59 matches, starting all but five of them. So far sheโ€™s got 17 goals and 15 assists in her career. Ten of those goals came during the 2021 season, she was also named PSAC East Athlete of the Year last season.ย 

 

Corinne Messier – Bentley University

Messier is one of two team captains for Bentley alongside McKenzie Sullivan. The senior earned a starting defensive spot last season, appearing in 17 matches. Messier is looking to lead the Falcons back to the NCAA Tournament.ย

DIII

Molly Beegle – Christopher Newport

Beegle and the Captains are coming off a National Championship win last season when they went undefeated with a 22-0-1 record. Theyโ€™ll be looking to continue that success when their season kicks off on September 2.ย 

The forward enters her senior season with 39 appearances, ten goals, and three assists for Christopher Newport.ย

Brenna Wehner – Washington and Lee

Wehner has spent three seasons with the Generals appearing in 42 matches on the backline. She leads a solid backline that earned ten shutouts during the 2021 season.

Sarah Hammond – Wesleyan University

Hammond is the starting goalkeeper for the Cardinals. Last season she earned six shutouts in 21 games, helping to lead Wesleyan to an 18-2-2 record. So far in her career, she posts a 0.83 goals against average in 45 games with a total of 176 saves made.
