Jaedyn Shaw: The USWNT’s Next Young Star

If you’ve been paying attention to the NWSL this season, you no doubt know the name Jaedyn Shaw. She’s been a super buzz-worthy name, and her star is only beginning to rise. But what don’t we know about Shaw?

Growing Up

Originally from Texas, Shaw is the true picture of determination and hard work. Every Soccerista and soccer parent knows what a financial and time commitment soccer can be, and the Shaw’s know that better than anyone. Growing up in a one-bedroom apartment with four people, Shaw credits her parents as a big part of her success for their sacrifice and support.

Dominating Youth Soccer

During her youth career, Shaw played for FC Dallas and Solar Soccer Club. At 14 years old, Shaw committed to the legendary North Carolina Tar Heels for their 2024 season, and a year later, she was invited to train with top-tier Paris Saint-Germain. Before she could even lace up for the Tar Heels, Shaw got special permission to enter the NWSL draft at just 17 years old.

San Diego Wave Career

Freshly 19 years old, Shaw established herself as a threat from the jump. In her very first game with SD Wave, playing among some of the best in the world, Shaw put her first professional goal in the net. For SD Wave, Shaw is an anywhere, anytime kind of offensive player. She can take the lead and support from any point of the attacking range as an ambidextrous player.

U.S. Duty

Shaw has been part of the USWNT youth programs since U-17 and was recently a member of the U-20 World Cup squad. Our 2022 U.S. Soccer Player of the Year is now on a multi-year contract for the Wave, and we’re sure to see a lot of great work from her and the franchise as the seasons keep coming.
More than being a stellar player, Shaw has a great head on her shoulders. After suffering an ACL tear at 16, she bounced back, arguably better than ever. She has an excellent support system in place with her family and is just happy, grateful, and ready to be a part of this game.
After this last World Cup, we know that the senior USWNT is amid some rebuilding. There’s no doubt in my mind that Jaedyn Shaw will be a pivotal piece in bringing gold back to the US.
