The Best Lesbian Soccer Couples and Stories This Pride Month

June is here, and we all know what that means: Pride Month! How better to enter this month than to dive into the world of women’s soccer and highlight some of our favorite lesbian soccer couples? Love can blossom anywhere, which is evidently true for the soccer pitch. There are countless relationships between soccer players and even among teammates! At the end of the day, they don’t all get happy endings, but it’s certainly entertaining to keep up with. So grab some popcorn and follow along with *all* of these relationships!

Sam Kerr & Kristie Mewis

Sam Kerr and Kristie Mewis are probably the most obviously in-love couples based on their social media presence. They are so clearly into each other and don’t care who’s watching.

Though the pair had been linked to each other since the COVID pandemic, they didn’t officially announce a relationship until the Olympic games in 2021. Considering that the two are extremely competitive players, it was fun to watch them put aside their personal feelings and compete against each other at the national level. Maybe we will see a rematch in the future? I, for one, hope so.

Ella Stevens & Tatumn Milazzo

Imagine your dream coming true and getting drafted to the NWSL after college, then meeting the love of your life on the same team a year later. Well, you don’t have to imagine too hard because that’s the story of Ella Stevens after being drafted to the Chicago Red Stars 2020 and Tatumn Milazzo joining the club in 2021.

They hinted at a relationship in early 2022 through several cute social media posts but officially announced their public relationship last June.

Lauren Barnes & Jess Fishlock

Lauren Barnes and Jess Fishlock have been linked since their team was still named the Seattle Reign FC, so it’s safe to say that they are familiar with each other. They even signed a loan deal to play together with not one but two teams. At one point in the 2017 season, the pair were even named co-captains of the Reign.

They are great friends and teammates, and if Fishlock wasn’t currently dating someone else, I can see how fans would speculate about these two being an item.

Tziarra King & Jess Fishlock

Playing on the same team with someone you are dating is always a gamble, but it paid off for Tziarra King and Jess Fishlock. The pair announced their engagement back in October and look to be in total bliss.

How can you not ship this couple? They look so incredibly cute in all of their photos together that it really makes you wonder if the rest of the team ever gets tired of seeing those smiles on their faces. Probably not!

Ashlyn Harris & Ali Krieger

Arguably my favorite of all the couples because of their fashion style, Ashlyn Harris and Ali Krieger are icons in the world of women’s soccer. The love story for the former Gotham FC and USWNT teammates is that of a movie, considering how long they had to hide their relationship.

The pair appeared on the Snacks podcast with Sam Mewis and Lynn Williams to tell the tale of how their love was kept a secret for a long time. They finally decided to live their truth by making their relationship public in early 2019 and getting married late that same year.

It was a happily ever after, especially with the addition of their two beautiful babies!

Rebeca Bernal & Janelly Farias

These two players from Mexico only have heart eyes for each other! If you look at any given post of the pair, they are always among the first to comment on the other’s photo with hearts and sweet messages. It’s so sickeningly cute!

The pair shocked and delighted fans when they kissed after winning a match back in 2021 when they both played for C.F. Monterrey Femenil. They are now rivals on the field since Farias began playing for Club Pachuca Femenil, but there remains nothing but ~love~ between them after games.

Lisa Boattin & Linda Sembrant

How awesome must it be to have your true love with you there to live through countless wins and losses together at the same club? Boattin and Sembrant have experienced just that throughout the years.

These Juventus teammates are yet one more example of love found through the sport. They are one of the few couples to also be married while playing together. I imagine it could be very difficult to play with your spouse at times (what happens if you have a spat right before the game?), but they are pros at it because they are still together!

Vivianne Miedema & Lisa Evans

Vivianne Miedema and Lisa Evans were in a relationship for six years! The pair met while playing for Bayern Munich and later moved to play for Arsenal together.

Ultimately the sparks didn’t last, and they broke up. But some fans were convinced they would get back together based on interactions during games. (Spoiler: they haven’t.)

Beth Mead & Daniëlle van de Donk

Arsenal is two for two in creating couples and, unfortunately (or fortunately for some), in couples breaking up. Like the last pair, Beth Mead and Daniëlle van de Donk also met while playing for the club. Alas, the teammates-turned-couple ultimately did not last, breaking up in 2021. They remained friends and even still have a few photos from their time together on their social media pages. No hard feelings here!

You know what they say: a couple who suffers through an injury together can conquer anything! Okay, nobody says that, but Beth Mead and Vivianna Miedema could be the first to start. Yes, you did read both of these players’ names already, but now they are together with each other! The pair is yet another example of a same-team relationship, and the two are turning heads by both being on crutches. Wishing them a speedy recovery!

Tobin Heath & Christen Press

Another couple that has experienced simultaneous injuries is Tobin Heath and Christen Press. They’ve likely been together forever but only let the public in on their relationship status as of last year.

Like Lu Barnes and Jess Fishlock, this duo knows how it feels to play alongside each other on various teams! Maybe their relationship blossomed while being across the pond playing for Manchester United or during various USWNT games.

We won’t know until they tell us, but regardless it is adorable to see how their relationship gets better with time.

Rachel Daly & Millie Turner

As a mega Houston Dash fan, former Dash captain turned Aston Villa player, Rachel Daly, is one of my favorite players, and I want all the happiness for her! That said, Daly and former lover Millie Turner are now rumored to be nothing more than rivals on the field. To pour salt in the wound, Turner recently scored the winning goal late in Manchester United’s game against Aston Villa. Daly couldn’t have had too many hard feelings because she went and congratulated Turner with a quick hug after the game.

It’s awesome how soccer brings people together, both as friends and partners. Lesson learned after reading these love stories: keep your heart open on the pitch because you’ll never know when love will appear!
