5 Things Everyone NEEDS To Know About Crystal Dunn!

While Crystal Dunn has long been a member of the USWNT, she rose to prominence after the 2019 World Cup. And we could not be more excited! To celebrate reaching her 100th cap for the United States early this year, here are a few facts about this fan favorite.

Tar Heel for Life

Dunn is an alumna of one of the most renowned soccer programs in the country —University of North Carolina. She made a huge splash in her first year at the university; starting in 23 matches, leading the team in points, and being the first freshman in history to win ACC Defensive Player of the Year. In fact, her list of collegiate accolades is probably longer than she is tall, here are a few more: Soccer America Freshman of the Year, 2010 NSCAA first-team All-America honoree, Second-team Soccer America MVP selection, First-team All-ACC, the Herman Trophy, and the Honda Award.

Playing the Field

Despite playing defense for the USWNT, Dunn is actually a seasoned striker. As a Tar Heel Dunn filled every position on the field except for keeper. As an NWSL player for the North Carolina Courage, Dunn occupies attacking positions as a striker and outside mid. Dunn switched to defense for the U.S. Women’s National Team to fill a void in the backline after playing primarily offensive positions during her time with the USWNT U-17, U-18, and U-20.

Though She is Little She is Fierce

Even though she is a commanding presence on the field, Crystal Dunn is tiny. At just 5’1 Dunn is the shortest player on the USWNT, shorter even than the youngest member of the team, 21 year old Mallory Pugh. Her small stature never stops her from bodying up on her mark while defending the USWNT or taking on a defender between her and the goal.

The French Connection

Who can forget the image of Crystal Dunn kissing her husband in the stands after another win at the 2019 World Cup? What you might not know is that Mr. Dunn, Pierre Soubrier, is a French citizen. The two met during Dunn’s time with the Washington Spirit, where he was also working as a trainer. The couple married in 2018 and, according to Dunn’s Instagram, are adorably happy together.

At just 27 Dunn has a long career in front of her, which just gives us more time to get to know and love her!
