6 Future USWNT Prospects: The Top Young Players That Could Get Called Up Soon

After the recent performance of the USWNT against Colombia with the interim coach and the resignation of head coach Vlatko Andonovski, it will be exciting to see the new talent brought to the pitch. The number of top prospects in the United States keeps increasing, and the USWNT have more international friendlies coming up against China. Letโ€™s look at six players who could be on a future USWNT roster.

Korbin Albert – PSG

A previous Notre Dame player, Korbin Albert, signed to play as a center midfielder for Paris Saint-Germain. She has consistently played for the youth national teams since her teenage years and is currently a part of the U-20 youth national team. A large part of Albertโ€™s success comes from her dual ability to shoot with both feet and consistent upper corner shots. Albert also has a unique confidence to take players on in order to slip through balls to the forwards.

 

Simone Jackson – USC

USC forward Simone Jackson has impressed the nation with how fast she is and her contributions by taking the ball down the line and cutting back. Jackson has played in thirteen games for the Trojans this season and ended her last season at with six goals and three assists. Additionally, she has been a consistent part of youth national teams and is an important addition to the U-23 womenโ€™s national team.

 

Sunshine Fontes – UCLA

Fontes has been one of the most entertaining players to watch in the NCAA. She helped to lead UCLA to their NCAA championship. Last season, she had eleven goals total, along with four game-winning goals and eight assists. Fontes is actively a part of the U-23 womenโ€™s national team, and could have a look at a future USWNT call-up.

 

Reilyn Turner – UCLA

Turner is a UCLA forward who is also a part of the U-23 national team. She scored the game-tying goal in the NCAA championship game against UNC. Turner stands out with her quick touches on the ball. Her confidence and speed allow her to have perfect positioning to tap the ball into the back of the net.

 

Onyeka Gamero – FC Barcelona

Gamero, originally a Stanford commit, recently signed to play with Barcelonaโ€™s B Team and resides at their academy in Spain. At 17, she is playing with the U-20 youth national team. Gamero is incredibly fast and creative and has been a standout player in her previous youth national team games.

 

Melanie Barcenas – San Diego Wave

This past year, Barcenas has made an extraordinary name for herself. In 2022, Barcenas signed a deal with Nike, and a year later, at 15 years old, Barcenas signed to play with the San Diego Wave. She has been playing with youth national teams since U-14 and is currently a part of the U-17 youth national team. In her season with the Wave, Barcenas has proved to be a skill player with lots of creativity and has very good reflexes.
