Being one of the youngest and one of the newest players on USWNT, there’s a lot to learn about Alyssa Thompson. Here are seven fun and interesting facts you might not have known about the young star!
1. Gatorade Player of the Year
Thompson won the 2020-2021 Gatorade Player of the Year in her high school soccer season at Harvard-Westlake. This is a huge accomplishment that is given to a student-athlete nationwide. It is awarded to a player that deserves recognition for their academic and athletic talent.

If you have not realized it already, Alyssa Thompson is insanely fast. While she visibly excelled in soccer, she was also a track star in high school, competing in the 100-meter dash. Thompsonโs personal record is ย 11.69 seconds when competing in the 100 meters.
3. Thompson played for a boys MLS NEXT team
Thompson, in fact, excelled on a boys’ MLS NEXT team beforeย signing her professional contract. She played for Total Futbol Academy and has shared impressive highlights where she impacts the game by scoring and assisting.
4. Alyssa Thompson will be on FIFA23
With the exciting announcement of the USWNT roster, FIFA23 will be adding players to their game as well. Look out for some of your favorite players, including Alyssa Thompson, in this popular World Cup game.
5. Gabrielle Union announced Thompsonโs spot on the USWNT roster
Along with a handful of other celebrities, Alyssa Thompson was congratulated by Gabrielle Union for all her accomplishments and her spot on the roster.
6. Thompson won Rookie of the Month
Within a year of playing for Angel City, Alyssa received Rookie of the Month of March/April. This was based on her individual play and opening matches which were revolutionary.
7. Thompson scored in her first 11 minutes on the field
While many already know this, it is probably the craziest fact about her. Within the first 11 minutes of stepping into her first game with Angel City, Thompson scored with a shot outside of the 18-yard box. This exceeded an expectation set for her at the time and proved that she deserved to be the No.1 NWSL draft pick.
