8 Players to Watch in the USL Super League Starting this Fall

The inaugural season of the USL Super League will start in August. The first season will feature eight teams: Brooklyn FC, Carolina Ascent FC, Dallas Trinity FC, Fort Lauderdale United FC, Spokane Zephyr FC, Tampa Bay Sun FC, DC Power FC, and Lexington SC. Some teams have already made a splash with their player signings, while others have been quieter.

The league will run from fall to summer, and they recently announced that every game will be streamed on Peacock. Ahead of the start of the season, we look at eight players you’ll want to watch in the new professional women’s soccer league.

Rylee Baisden – Carolina Ascent

Baisden is an experienced forward who’s spent her professional career playing in Australia and having a stint in the NWSL. She played with the Brisbane Roar during the 2019-20 season before signing with the North Carolina Courage in 2020. She spent three seasons with the Courage, including helping the Courage win the 2022 Challenge Cup.

After the 2022 NWSL season, Baisden signed with Perth Glory in Australia, but her time with the club was cut short when she suffered an ACL tear at the beginning of 2023. Now Baisden is coming back from that injury, and she should be quite the offensive threat for a Carolina Ascent roster that has a lot of star power.

Porter comes to the USL Super League, having most recently played with the Portland Thorns. She’s no stranger to North Carolina as the midfielder played collegiately at NC State. Before joining the Thorns, she played professionally in Spain and Serbia. The midfielder joined Portland in 2021 and was with the team until 2023. She was part of the roster that won the 2022 NWSL Championship. Porter is a good midfielder who can control play for the Ascent.

Amber Brooks – Dallas Trinity

Brooks has been playing professionally since 2013, with stints in Germany with Bayern Munich and Australia with Adelaide United. She also spent several seasons in the NWSL with the Portland Thorns, Seattle Reign, Houston Dash, and Washington Spirit. Altogether, she has over 160 appearances in the NWSL. She became the first player to sign with Dallas Trinity, and she’ll most certainly be their defensive leader.

Addie McCain – Fort Lauderdale United

She was the 17th pick in the 2017 NWSL Draft and spent two seasons with the Kansas City Current and the 2023 season with the Chicago Red Stars. She’s a young midfielder that Fort Lauderdale will be able to build around.

She began her professional career with FC Kansas City, where she appeared in nearly 100 games and helped the club win two NWSL Championships between 2013 and 17. She also spent time with the Utah Royals and Orlando Pride. The midfielder also has experience on the international stage with the USWNT, having earned three appearances between 2013 and 14.
