Forget the Super Bowl. The ads for this year’s FIFA World Cup are some of the best around! Sit back and take a look at some of the best that the brands behind the tournament and what these players have to offer.
NWSL – We Play Here
First up is one that brings everyone together, just as soccer intended. The NWSL highlights some of their best players from across the world and some of the brightest moments in women’s soccer history. This ad is exactly what every fan needs to get pumped and ready for a summer of more soccer.
Fox Soccer – USA vs The World
This was one of the first ads to come out prior to the tournament, and it attempted to answer the question on everyone’s mind–how do you beat the USWNT? It’s a really fun video that goes over every little thing that could possibly work, and at the end, the US women daring the world to try. This was a really great ad for USA fans to get hyped, even though the USWNT make it past the Round of 16.
Coca-Cola – FIFA
Some of the ads this year were a little on the tear-jerking side. Putting a spotlight on the international aspect of the tournament, Coca-Cola featured three players–USA’s Alex Morgan, Australia’s Ellie Carpenter, and New Zealand’s Katie Bowen–and what inspirations they are on a global scale.
Nike – Debinha
This ad is simple but effective. It features Brazillian superstar Debinha in a bodega, unintentionally showing off some of her ball-handling skills. The ad has a great mix of humor and a wow factor between the setup and Debinha’s talent.
Nike – Sam Kerr
This commercial does such a great job in such a small window of showing what a chokehold this tournament has on fans. Sam Kerr has views on the edge of their seat, on their feet, and by the end, mirroring one of her signature celebrations.
Nike – Sophia Smith
Sophia Smith’s Nike ad has the perfect combination of sweet and scary–just like Smith herself! This ad features Smith lurking around every corner, like a horror villain with the best smile, just ready to tear everyone apart on the field.
Orange – France’s Football Team
Our other first-place winner definitely goes to Nike’s spotlight on the French national team. The ad highlights the athleticism and skill of female soccer players in the most attention-grabbing and clever way. By first taking footage of female French soccer players and photoshopping male French players and then showing the whole process in reverse, proved that women can do it just as well–or even better.
Nike – Megan Rapinoe
Nike came out incredibly strong with their ad campaign this year, and unlike the World Cup, the top spot here ends in a tie. The early 90s Saturday morning superhero-style cartoon they put out for Megan Rapinoe was so visually satisfying and had the catchiest song since “Waka Waka” by Shakira.
