Camp Nou Will Host Barça-Madrid Women’s Champions

FC Barcelona today, Monday, has notified UEFA that the first leg of the Women’s Champions League quarter final against Real Madrid will take place at Camp Nou on March 30 at 6.45pm CEST/12:45pm EST.

It will be the second time that Barça Women, current European Champions and treble winners last season, play in the famous stadium since becoming professional. The first time that Barça Women played a competitive fixture at Camp Nou was for the league game with RCD Espanyol on January 6, 2021.  The 5-0 win commemorated half a century since a Barcelona Women’s XI first played a game in the stadium. However, due to Covid-19 restrictions, no supporters were able to attend.

The club has made this decision in recognition of the exceptional achievements of its women’s team in the last year, winning the league and cup double as well as their first-ever Champions League.

FC Barcelona will do all it can to ensure that the largest possible crowd is in the stadium to support the team in such a high-profile fixture while at the same time following all of the protocols and regulations set out by the health authorities.

Impeccable Champions League

The side coached by Jonatan Giráldez have qualified for the knockout stage of the Champions League after winning all six of their games in the group stage. As fate would have it, they have been drawn against Real Madrid, who finished second in their group, in the quarter finals of the competition.

Barça and women

Barça continues working every day to strengthen its commitment to women’s football. As part of this commitment, the Club is determined to implement actions to boost its growth, such as the recent opening of an area of La Masia for the first female residents in its history and focusing the last edition of the Sports Tomorrow Congress on women in sports.

The women’s team is also evidence of this commitment. The team became professional in 2015 and last year closed a season in which Barça made history by winning their first treble. Giráldez’s players now face the challenge and ambition of continuing to win and continuing to dominate European football.

To achieve this, the Club is supporting both the talent trained at the Club with figures such as captains Alexia Putellas, winner of the 2021 Golden Ball, and Patri Guijarro, Leila Ouahabi and Aitana Bonmatí, as well as important international signings such as Lieke Martens, winner of the Golden Player Women this year and who in 2017 was chosen Player of the Year by UEFA and The Best by FIFA, Asisat Oshoala, who in 2021 was voted Best African Woman Player of the Decade or the Norwegian Caroline Graham Hansen.
