2020 will forever be known as the year of the pandemic. While COVID-19 put sports out of commission for a while, women’s soccer leagues around the world were not deterred. The NWSL became trailblazers as the first to make a return. Soon, Europe and the NCAA followed, giving us the best holiday present we could ask for: more soccer. As 2020 winds down, let’s enjoy the best goals of 2020.

Tobin Heath – Manchester United Women
MY WORD TOBIN HEATH ??

Tobin Heath completely changed the Manchester United locker room from the moment she arrived at the club. Her play on the pitch has been inspiring and goals like this give us yet another reason to admire her. Heath pounced on a mistake from Lucy Bronze, and wasted no time firing the shot into the roof of the net. Heath talked the talk before that game but she walked the walk during it.

Rose Lavelle – USWNT

After scoring an iconic goal during the 2019 Women’s World Cup against the Netherlands, Rose Lavelle managed to do it again. All it took was a sliver of daylight for her to run behind the defense and receive the ball from Christen Press. After that, it was one dip of the shoulder, one touch to set up the shot followed by a beautifully curled effort. Rose made it look effortless, but such deadly finishing is unguardable.

Jordan Nobbs – Arsenal Women
Jordan Nobbs only scores worldies pass it on ?
— Georgia (@GJGoulding) October 1, 2020
Jordan Nobbs is world-class and there’s no denying it. The English international is normally more of a provider but this was a splendid finish. Nobbs displayed immense audacity and confidence to take this strike on. The outside of her boot was all she needed, but still, she had such little room to go for this chip. Watching it in slow motion allows us to really appreciate the technique in the strike from such a great player.

Millie Bright – Chelsea Women
One watch just isn't enough… ? @Mdawg1Bright pic.twitter.com/FfXW9Rp1nr
— Chelsea FC Women (@ChelseaFCW) August 30, 2020
This was an absolute belter from Millie Bright and arguably her best goal for the club over the last four years. Bright’s teammate Ji So-yun laid the ball off perfectly into her path. Bright took one touch and picked her head up but still had a lot of work to do from so far out. Despite her distance from the goal, Bright put her foot through it and the risk paid off big time. The shot swerved and dipped before finding the back of the net. This was a tremendous strike from one of Chelsea’s longest-tenured players.

Joelle Wedemeyer – VFL Wolfsburg Women
Beginning at the 0:39 mark, women’s soccer fans should enjoy this goal over and over and over again for two reasons. The first is to see just how Joelle Wedemeyer basically defied physics with the curve on her shot. The second is to admire the overall move. Wedemeyer took the space she was given by cutting inside, but no one would’ve guessed she’d take the shot from that far out. The ball initially looked wide, but slowly crept towards the far post before it snuck past the keeper. We had plenty of great goals to choose from but this takes the top spot on this list of the best goals of 2020.
