Top 5 Goals: D1 Arkema, Barclays WSL & Supercopa de España Femenina

Women’s soccer is back with a bang this week as numerous leagues returned to action. The Barclays FA WSL, D1 Arkema, and Supercopa de España Femenina are three of the best competitions in the world, and the players did not let us down. There were some exhilarating matches and amazing goals to go with it, which is why we’re here to help you get caught up on it all. Here’s our Top 5 Goals list from the Barclays FA WSL, Supercopa de España Femenina, and the D1 Arkema.

5. Aïrine Fontaine – Fleury FC

In a game where most experts would have picked PSG to win easily over Fleury FC, it was quite the opposite. Fleury gave PSG everything they could handle, with the match ending in a 4-4 thriller.

Aïrine Fontaine provided a huge boost of momentum and brought the match back to 4-3 with this goal. From inside her own half, Fontaine took the misplaced pass and went on her own toward the goal.

Multiple defenders couldn’t stop her, and once Fontaine got to the top of the box, she knew exactly what to do with it. Before Sarah Bouhaddi could even get across in time, the ball was past her, a fine finish from Fontaine and Fleury FC.

4. Rosemonde Kouassi – Fleury FC

Rosemonde Kouassi scored a goal similar to her teammate, but it was an even more incredible solo run and finish. Kouassi picked up the ball in her own half and never gave it up; three different defenders couldn’t get the ball off her for quite some time.

Kouassi would go for goal herself and found it with great success. There might have been a slight deflection, but it was still a special goal to keep her team in the game.

PSG has to figure out getting back defensively because conceding multiple goals like this in the same game is a problem. Take nothing away from Fleury FC, who has an underrated team that few know about.

3. Rachel Williams – Manchester United

Rachel Williams helped send Manchester United to the top of the table with this amazing game-winning goal against Reading. The composure and finishing from Williams are of the highest order.

Three different defenders tried to stop her but couldn’t, and her patience when most would have panicked is key. As soon as Williams had the opening, she took her chance and went top shelf with a perfect finish.

In the heat of the moment, Rachel Williams was as cool as ice.

2. Claudia Pina – Barcelona

Barcelona vs. Real Madrid is one of the world’s biggest rivalries on the men’s side. Yet, on the women’s side, Barcelona has utterly dominated Real Madrid and emerged as the big sister in this rivalry. Barcelona would defeat Real Madrid, and once again, it wasn’t close.

Claudia Pina sealed the deal with this incredible goal that initially seemed like a cross. Yet, based on how she struck this ball on a line, there was no way Pina was looking to cross this ball. The keeper is in a great position, but because the shot was from an unexpected place and had so much pace, the ball found the side netting.

Barcelona has an embarrassment of riches, and Claudia Pina is a small part of that.

1. Aggie Beever-Jones – Everton

At just 19 years of age, Aggie Beever-Jones is one of the bright, young starlets that England has in their pipeline. The Chelsea Academy product is on loan with Everton, and this kind of goal has to make both clubs excited about what she can do on the pitch at the WSL level.

Once again, defenders fail to step up and challenge Beever-Jones, giving her all day to line up the shot. West Ham dared her to shoot it, and she made them pay. The teenager put her foot through the ball, and it kept rising and moving away from the keeper’s outstretched hand and into the top corner.

Keep an eye on Aggie Beever-Jones. She’s sure to be in the England senior team sometime in the future.
