Top 5 Goals: Serie A Femminile, Coppa Italia, Liberty A-League & Women’s FA Cup

Italy, England, and Australia all had league games or cup competitions this weekend, and all three featured some incredible goals. We’ve got you covered, whether it’s the Serie A Femminile, the Coppa Italia, the Liberty A-League, or the Women’s FA Cup. Here’s another exciting list of the Top 5 Goals from the world of women’s soccer.

5. Katrina Gorry – Brisbane Roar

The longtime Matildas veteran continues to make an impact for the Brisbane Roar in the A-League. Faced with the tough task of taking a free kick with the goal straight away, Gorry didn’t have many options.

Being right on the edge of the 18-yard box for a free kick makes it much harder to score because of less area to aim for. Gorry had to get enough power to get over and around the wall, but too much power and the ball would go flying over the crossbar.

She struck it perfectly as the ball curled around the keeper’s outstretched hand to complete a gorgeous free-kick goal.

4. Sofia Cantore – Juventus

This is a cheeky yet beautiful goal scored by Sofia Cantore for Juventus. The Italian showed tremendous body control on this finish. Cantore is running full speed at the ball with a defender on her.

What’s brilliant is how Cantore still managed to get her foot to the ball while it looked like she was running away from the goal to avoid a collision. Most players lose their composure due to the fear of colliding with the keeper, but Cantore keeps her head and finds the net with a lovely chip for the goal.

3. Sam Kerr – Chelsea

With Bethany England departing for Tottenham, Sam Kerr’s presence on the front line and her ability to score goals make her even more important than she already was.

Her goal was to come to Chelsea to win trophies, a prophecy Kerr and the Blues will continue to fulfill. The Women’s FA Cup is a trophy Chelsea is looking to add to their case again, and goals like this from Kerr will help them do that.

Niamh Charles put the cross into the box, but for Kerr to stick her leg up there and fire home a one-time volley is something special. It’s hard enough just to make contact, let alone hit it perfectly and find the goal. Sam Kerr is just out of this world.

2. Cristiana Girelli – Juventus

This is one of the more unreal goals I’ve ever seen, and it had to come ahead of Sam Kerr’s goal. Cristiana Girelli attempted a bicycle kick, but her first attempt was blocked.

Somehow, the ball stayed in the air right about Girelli, who never moved from her spot on the ground. Girelli’s focus and coordination are of the highest quality here because she keeps her eye on the ball and then tries the same overhead kick from her seated position.

For her to get enough power to beat the keeper from that spot is incredible on its own. I watched this about 20 times just to comprehend how it went in. This was an unforgettable goal from Cristiana Girelli.

1. Manuela Giugliano – AS Roma

AS Roma had little trouble advancing past Pomigliano in the Coppa Italia with an 8-1 victory. One of Roma’s superstars, Manuela Giugliano, scored an incredible goal to get things started. Let’s just say once Roma scored this, it set the tone for the rest of the match, and Pomigliano had no chance.

The way Giugliano sees this unfold in her own mind is spectacular. She knows that once the ball comes across her, she has to try and slice the ball rather than hit through it. If Giugliano doesn’t slice it, the keeper has a chance to save it. That slice on the ball allows it to curl away from the keeper and find the net.

A genuinely jaw-dropping finish to take this week’s top spot on our Top 5 Goals list.
