Top 5 Goals: Liberty A-League, Barclays WSL & Frauen Bundesliga

Numerous leagues around the world made their return to action with the business end of the season in session. The best of the best are jostling for position at the top of the standings, and each game grows in importance as the weeks go on. With the stakes higher than ever, the goals we’re seeing are also on another level. Let’s look at the best women’s soccer goals from the Liberty A-League, Barclays FA WSL, and Frauen Bundesliga.

5. Lena Lattwein – VFL Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg is unbeaten in the league in 11 games this year, and all 11 are wins. They’ve yet to be troubled and sit seven points clear of everyone at the top of the standings.

Wolfsburg’s last match ended 4-0, and Lena Lattwein put the finishing touch on the game. Jill Roord put a perfect ball into the box, and Lattwein did that by beating out her defender; the header is hard to pull off, and getting the lift on the jump required plenty of strength.

That is a worthy goal for Wolfsburg, as they are well on their way to another Bundesliga title.

4. Chloe Kelly – Manchester City

Chloe Kelly is one of the best young players in the world, and her potential knows no bounds. Manchester City has relied on her repeatedly throughout the long season, and Kelly has performed almost every time.

Kelly’s first step is lightning quick; no defenders can get anywhere near her. Once Kelly got to her spot on the pitch, she fired the shot home with a clean strike; the keeper had no chance.

3. Alana Jancevski – Perth Glory

The Matildas continue to churn out top-notch young talent in the A-League, where those starlets hone their skills.

Alana Jancevski is next up and sure to work her way into the Australian senior team with goals like these. Jancevski made perfect contact with the ball as it flew around the wall and curled into the net.

At just 19, for Jancevski to step up and score a free kick with this much confidence indicates she has tremendous potential. Remember her name; she’ll be at a big club one day.

2. Lauren James – Chelsea

Lauren James’ career trajectory has risen exponentially since her move to Chelsea. The winger has featured for the Blues more frequently and has taken full advantage of her opportunities.

James received the ball on the right wing and never gave it up. Three different defenders came nowhere close to getting her off the ball as James dribbled around them with ease. The finish was as calm as you like; the winger guided the ball past the keeper for her first goal of 2023.

1. Sarah Hunter – Sydney FC

Sarah Hunter is another young Aussie star like Alana Jancevski, destined for bigger and better things with the Aussie senior team.

Hunter did something that not many players would do: taking this shot before taking a touch. Most players would try to settle the ball to get more power on the strike. Instead, Hunter ended up side-footing the ball with the inside of her foot, and it looked like a chip-shot, but it had just enough power and accuracy to beat the keeper.

The goal is insanely hard to score, and if you asked anyone else to try and replicate it, they’d also have a hard time doing it. It’s worthy of taking the top spot on this week’s list.
