Top 5 Goals: D1 Arkema & NWSL Regular Season

Europe’s domestic leagues are coming to a close, with the NWSL regular season in full swing. The goals are pouring in, which gave us plenty of options to choose from on this week’s list. Let’s look at the best women’s soccer goals from D1 Arkema in France and the NWSL regular season.

5. Catarina Macario – Lyon

Catarina Macario silenced all doubters this season with some incredible performances with Lyon in the biggest of games. Lyon took on PSG with a chance to lock up the D1 Arkema title, and Macario took the game into her own hands.

After receiving a great through ball and the defender unable to find a good angle for a tackle, Macario went near the end line with a very tough angle to finish. Being the superstar that she is, Macario calmly slotted the ball into the far corner.

Hopefully, she comes to the NWSL soon; the league needs her.

4. Ashley Hatch – Washington Spirit

The Washington Spirit must be ecstatic about their young trio and just how good they are week in and week out. Ashley Sanchez’s ability to get the ball to Ashley Hatch and Trinity Rodman is a game-breaker, and that’s what they did on this play.

The run from Hatch is timed perfectly, and so is the pass from Sanchez, but the finish from Hatch makes the attacking move look even better.

For her to curl the shot from that angle and find the far post shows how hard Ashley Hatch has been working, that’s a finish only the best strikers score consistently.

3. Hina Sugita – Portland Thorns

Portland versus Chicago was absolute fireworks, with both teams scoring in the opening ten minutes.

Hina Sugita provided a brilliant piece of quick thinking on this goal. Sugita ran onto the ball and hit it towards the back post, but there was no one open in the box, which allowed Sugita to go for goal.

The Japanese international scored a beautiful goal that few players can execute with such technique.

2. Rose Lavelle – OL Reign

The Sofia Huerta-Rose Lavelle connection is becoming a common theme for the OL Reign. Their two best offensive creators combined for a cracking goal that was created by Huerta.

It starts with the beauty of the delivery into the box. It comes in with pace but not too much, enough for Rose Lavelle to come sprinting onto it. The header from Rose Lavelle was also surprisingly emphatic and gave the keeper no chance.

Seeing the celebrations after the goal, that moment meant a lot for the OL Reign as a team, and it was great to see.

1. Trinity Rodman – Washington Spirit

Trinity Rodman is truly something else–if she starts scoring more long-distance goals like this one, then she will become unstoppable.

The defenders didn’t want to step toward Rodman out of fear of getting beat, almost daring her to take the shot from long distance.

Rodman went for it, and we all witnessed from the camera angle how that ball arrowed off the post and in. It simply doesn’t get better than that when striking a ball. Trinity Rodman is a budding superstar. We all should sit back and enjoy it as we watch her career unfold.
