Top 5 Goals: NWSL Regular Season Week 10 and USWNT at Olympics

Women’s Soccer at the Olympics has more than lived up to the hype with goals galore in the group stages. On top of that, the NWSL action is just as exciting, with plenty of other stars picking up the slack with the USWNT in Tokyo. There have been some great moments all around from both competitions. Here are the best women’s soccer goals from the USWNT at the Olympics and the NWSL Week 10.

5. Rose Lavelle – USWNT

Not a bad way to make a statement in your first-ever Olympics if you’re Rose Lavelle. Tobin Heath does ever so well to touch the ball perfectly into the path of Lavelle. Once Lavelle picks her head up she knows exactly what she’s going to do with it. The keeper doesn’t take the best angle, allowing Lavelle to go for the near post, and she executes the strike to perfection. It set the tone against New Zealand for an impressive 6-1 win.

4. Jessica Fishlock – OL Reign

It’s a great thing to see Jessica Fishlock still amongst the scoring after recovering from serious injuries. Tziarra King did well to win the ball back and get the ball to Fishlock. The Wales star then used her body to shield the ball from the defender nicely. Fishlock then makes a great read on Ashlyn Harris, who cheats towards the far post expecting Fishlock to bend it there. Instead, she goes near post and beats Harris easily to help seal the points for the OL Reign on the road.

3. Allie Long – Gotham FC

Allie Long was a great acquisition for Gotham FC and gives them a solid presence in both attack and defense. This goal features a great teasing cross from Caprice Dydasco, followed by a cheeky chip from Allie Long. The hometown hero showed some tremendous skill with this flick over the keeper; she really made this goal look way easier than it was. To make that adjustment while running onto the ball takes another level of skill.

2. Christen Press – USWNT

Whether she’s in the Starting XI or coming off the bench, Christen Press is going to create at least one chance for the USWNT. The return of Julie Ertz has also been huge for the Americans, and both players connected well in this play. The ball in from Ertz was inch-perfect, and Press did well to control the ball. Once Press brought it down, she immediately took the shot on the half-volley with the outside of her foot. The ball found the far corner, showing just how deadly this USWNT can be in attack.

1. Tziarra King – OL Reign

Tziarra King continues to have a major impact on her new team this season. While her finish was outstanding, we cannot forget about the backheel pass to set up King from Eugenie Le Sommer. It was a deft flick that took the Orlando defense out of the equation and gave King the space she needed. Once King cut inside, she had the option to bend it to the far post with the defender quickly approaching. As it turns out, the defender didn’t do enough to stop her, and King curled it with both power and pace. The ball flew into the bottom corner, and with goals like that, it’s clear Tziarra King needs more playing time.
