Top 5 Goals: NCAA Soccer Week 4, International Break, NWSL

This week’s Top 5 Goals list features a first that makes it all the more special. Rose Lavelle becomes the first player to make the list while scoring for club and country in the same week. That’s almost impossible to do based on the international break schedule, but it highlights how locked in Rose Lavelle is right now. Plus, there were some other bangers from the NCAA college landscape and NWSL to get you caught up on. So let’s take a closer look at the best women’s soccer goals of the Week from the NCAA, International Break, and NWSL.

5. Rose Lavelle – USWNT

Rose Lavelle is doing it all right now, with her versatility more apparent now than ever. This goal against Nigeria could not have come at a better time with the game tied. It seemed like the Nigerians could scrape out a draw, but Lavelle and Megan Rapinoe ended that thought quickly.

Rapinoe was on the field a little more than a minute before firing in this cross that was slightly behind Lavelle. Rose made an amazing adjustment midair to head the back from behind her back across the keeper and into the goal. The degree of difficulty to score is way higher than it looks. Rose Lavelle is just a special player.

4. Sam Kroeger – Rutgers

Rutgers remains one of the only unbeaten teams in college soccer, and they had to come from behind to keep their unblemished record intact.

Sam Kroeger scored this gorgeous game-winner from long range after the LSU defense gave her just enough space to try the shot. Once Kroeger lined up the shot, she knew she wanted to go for that top corner and found it with great technique, keeping her knee over the ball.

With clutch goals like this, Rutgers will surely be the team to beat in the Big 10 this season.

3. Rose Lavelle – OL Reign

The OL Reign were trailing Chicago and at risk of having the Red Stars leapfrog them in the league standings. Rose Lavelle took things into her own hands and decided that wasn’t going to happen with this incredible strike.

When Lavelle has space to operate, she’s almost impossible to stop. Add in the fact that the defender couldn’t get Lavelle back onto her right foot, and it was trouble for Chicago. The power that Lavelle has to generate such a hit to go with the accuracy shows the level that she’s on. She’s rewarding the OL Reign tenfold fordecidingn to acquire her.

2. Kylie Daigle – Rutgers

Rutgers needed a spark to get back into the game while trailing LSU and Kylie Daigle provided that in a big way. Daigle had no business trying this shot from this angle, but the confidence and self-belief are what we love to see.

Two defenders were closing her down. She had her back to goal but still knew exactly where she was on the pitch to go for goal. The crossbar gave her the help she needed as the goalie did everything she could to get a hand to it. That’s a goal for the highlight reel and was a huge goal in the context of Rutgers’ season.

1. Maria Sanchez – Houston Dash

Maria Sanchez has been immense for the Houston Dash this year and is tied for the team lead in assists with four. It was only a matter of time before she was going to score a golazo when her team needed it.

This was right off the training ground where the Dash took a short corner kick and worked the ball around to Sanchez. The Mexican international had all the time and space she needed to line up the shot, and well, there’s no keeper in the world that could save this strike.

The bend and pace on the strike were too much, and it’s for sure one of the best goals you’ll see all year. Look out for Houston this postseason. Their offense is a real problem, especially with players like Sanchez leading the way.
