5. Eugenie Le Sommer – OL Reign

Eugenie Le Sommer has been exactly as advertised for the OL Reign since joining from Lyon. The French superstar has already created some magical moments while embarrassing goalkeepers and defenders alike. In this case, Le Sommer caught everyone off guard, but the execution needed to be perfect. We’ll often see a player go for glory and chip the keeper, but the ball soars over the goal. Well, Le Sommer struck it perfectly, and it curled over the keeper and into the net spectacularly, an incredible goal in a huge win for the OL Reign.ย

4. Angharad James – North Carolina Courage

The Welsh international made a big impact for North Carolina in their match against Gotham FC. Unfortunately for the Courage, they didn’t come away winners, but this goal was a nice consolation. James picks up the recycled ball near the top of the box, and her first touch off of her chest is the setup. Then, with perfect technique, James strikes through the ball with her knee over it on the volley, and unsurprisingly the ball ends up in the back of the net. This is the perfect example of how to strike a volley.ย

3. Christine Sinclair – Portland Thorns

Christine Sinclair continues to be the ageless wonder we all know and love while scoring some incredible goals. Once again, Sinclair does something that few can do or even try to do. From where Sinclair gets the ball, most would try to go for power and put their foot through the ball. Instead, Sinclair composes herself as Crystal Dunn lays it off to her, and she chips it perfectly off the far post and in. The keeper isn’t anywhere near her chip shot which means Sinclair’s touch on it was flawless. Christine Sinclair is nowhere near close to done yet.ย

2. Kadeisha Buchanan – Lyon

This goal was a better version of Angharad James’ strike from above, and it was very close to taking the top spot on the list. Once every so often, a player makes such clean contact that it’s spectacular, and the goal can be watched over and over again. What makes this goal more special is how Buchanan does not allow the ball to bounce; she hit it on the one-time volley, no extra touches needed. This is the definition of a screamer and one that Kadeisha Buchanan will never forget.ย

1. Alexia Putellas – FC Barcelona

The rate at which keepers are getting caught off their line from a distance is alarming in some respects but takes nothing away from the brilliance of Alexia Putellas. The Spanish star received the pass from her teammate near midfield, picked up her head, and saw the keeper near the top of the box. Then, before the keeper can even react, Putellas casually fires a line drive chip shot over her head. Not only does she make it look ridiculously easy, but she does it with style as well. Alexia Putellas takes the top spot with this brilliant chip.
