Top 5 Goals: NWSL and FA WSL

Women’s soccer action was incredible this week, and whittling down the list to only five goals was very difficult. Rose Lavelle scored a great goal with a rocket of a shot from just outside the box, Bri Visalli of the Houston Dash also had a great curled effort. While both are honorable mentions, neither made our list this week, meaning the goals are on another level. So here are our picks for the best women’s soccer goals this week from the NWSL and FA WSL.

5. Tatumn Milazzo – Chicago Red Stars

Tatumn Milazzo has come a long way from supplemental roster player to making the team and now playing for the Chicago Red Stars. Not only did she play, but she scored this incredible goal to bring Chicago back into the game. The former South Carolina star shocked everyone by taking this shot without taking a touch. Instead, Milazzo ran up to put her foot through the ball with a defender nearby, and the ball found the top corner perfectly; it doesn’t get more accurate than that from Tatumn Milazzo.

4. Frida Maanum – Arsenal

Frida Maanum is one of Arsenal’s newest signings from the summer and a Norwegian international. The midfielder was able to show off her technical ability with how she struck this ball. First, she danced around one defender before finding herself in space for the shot. All that’s left is the flawless execution, the ball arrowed into the roof of the net. No keeper in the world was going to stop that.

3. Gaetane Thiney – Gotham FC

Gaetane Thiney is proving to be a great signing for Gotham FC and could be one of the last pieces to help this team secure a playoff spot. The French international netted a double, including a splendid free-kick. However, this goal was better. Thiney took everyone by surprise with how she unleashed this shot from long distance. Ashlyn Harris’ vision was blocked, so she saw the ball late and therefore was too late to try and save it. This was a nice way for Thiney to announce herself to the Gotham FC fans, and surely the team is happy to have her.

2. Katie McCabe – Arsenal

This makes it two in two weeks for Katie McCabe to make our list. This week’s goal is better than last week’s for sure. For any aspiring players out there, this is exactly how to strike a volley. The ball pops off of the ground, McCabe takes a touch off her leg, and it is set up perfectly for her to keep her knee over the ball and strike it. It’s a beautiful and fluid motion, with the result being a brilliant goal from a player in great form.

1. Jess Fishlock – OL Reign

Jess Fishlock continues to make long-distance goals look like tap-ins from three yards out. It’s almost as if she practices these shots with regularity. No other player would have any business even trying to attempt a shot from there. However, Fishlock has proven someone needs to be aware of putting a body on her even when she’s 30+ yards away from the goal. All the Welsh superstar needed was one touch, and then before you know it, the ball smashes off the crossbar and goes in. A screamer from Jess Fishlock is the clear winner for the top spot in this week’s list.
