Top 5 Goals: 2022 NCAA Elite Eight, Serie A Femminile, Frauen Bundesliga, Liga F

Top 5 Goals is once again going international with some sumptuous finishes from around the world, including Spain, Germany, Italy, and of course, America. So let’s get right into the best of the best women’s soccer goals from this past week. Here are the Top 5 Goals from the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament, Serie A Femminile, Frauen Bundesliga, and Liga F.

5. Sofia Cook – UCLA Bruins

UCLA versus Virginia was an intense showdown with a spot in the Final Four on the line. Virginia equalized late in regulation to send the game to extra time.

That’s when Sofia Cook provided this moment of brilliance to send the Bruins to the Final Four. Once the ball came across the box, Cook could’ve taken a touch to try and set up a better shot. But instead, she went for a far more difficult attempt and shocked everyone.

This is a professional-level goal being scored in a college game. Cook comes across the ball and hits it perfectly with the outside of her boot. The keeper is already going to her left, and because Cook surprised her, the shot found the back of the net. So, UCLA’s dream of a national championship stays alive, thanks to Sofia Cook.

4. Annamaria Serturini – AS Roma

AS Roma is well on their way to winning their first-ever Serie A Femminile title, and another win put them six points clear of everyone else at the top. Annamaria Serturini has a great chance to work her way back into the Italian national team with goals like this.

Her technique is of the highest quality, a long-distance strike that bent away from the keeper from the right side of the field. This is incredibly hard to execute, and Serturini made it look easy. From the moment the ball left her foot, it was destined to find the back of the net.

3. Claudia Pina – FC Barcelona

Barcelona’s quest to redeem themselves after a brutal loss in the Champions League final last year is going quite well. Barca took on Bayern Munich midweek, and the German side simply couldn’t keep up.

This strike from Claudia Pina is a beautiful goal that never gets old to watch. All in one fluid motion, Pina receives the ball, uses her first touch to give her the angle to curl the ball toward the top corner, and then executes it to perfection.

At just 21 years of age, Pina has to be one of the best young stars on the planet, without any doubt.

2. Nina Lührßen – Werder Bremen

Imagine scoring a goal like this in front of 20,000 screaming fans. That’s precisely what Nina Lührßen was able to experience with this wonderful strike.

Normally when a player puts their arm in the air, it’s to let her teammates know she’s either going to take the kick now or because it’s for a specific set play.

Instead, Nina Lührßen went for goal on what seemed like a near-impossible angle. Most would try to put the ball into the box, but Lührßen’s left foot allowed her to curl the ball and sneak it inside the near post, and the keeper didn’t stand a chance.

That’s the kind of free kick that would normally take the top spot on the list, but this time we have one that’s even better.

1. Maria Leon – FC Barcelona

You literally cannot strike a ball any better than how Maria Leon just did. That is hours on the training ground working on different free-kick scenarios over and over again.

The keeper didn’t even move, and the ball nestled right into the bottom corner. It had everything: pace, power, curve, and accuracy, and Leon could’ve just walked off the field at that point. It was so perfect. Leon doesn’t even take that big of a run up which makes it even more impressive; all she needs is two steps and generates that much power and bend.

A surreal goal that Maria Leon will surely add to her highlight reel of amazing goals.
