Top 5 Goals: European Action and A-League

Now that America’s soccer season has pretty much come to an end, it’s time to switch our focus to the rest of the world. Europe’s domestic leagues were all in action, as well as the UEFA Women’s Champions League mid-week. In addition, the Liberty A-League is up and running in Australia, which means we had more than enough goals to choose from. So let’s get into this week’s best women’s soccer goals from European action and the W-League.

5. Tatiana Bonetti – Inter Milan

Inter Milan was in a tightly contested matchup with Sassuolo at the top of the table and trailed late into the game. With this brilliant move, Tatiana Bonetti decided to take the game into her own hands.

After gaining possession, she cut towards her right with the defender in her way and then spun back around to her left. This not only left her defender in the dust but cleared enough space to take the early shot, which the keeper wasn’t expecting. It was accurate and powerful enough to find the bottom corner–a clutch goal from Tatiana Bonetti.

4. Remy Siemsen – Sydney FC

A promising prospect for the Matildas, Remy Siemsen is working her way back toward the top of Aussie football. At age 22, she still has plenty of time to leave her mark. In fact, she’s already started for Sydney FC.

After already scoring once in their last match, Siemsen showed off her technique with this great goal for her second. After the defense gave Sydney the ball back, it opened things up for Siemsen to take on the strike.

The striker got her feet set and then smashed the ball into the top corner, giving the keeper no chance. That’s a clean, technical finish from Siemsen, who could work her way back into the Matildas squad with goals like these.

3. Lieke Martens – FC Barcelona

Lieke Martens is almost unstoppable on the wing; she’s constantly wreaking havoc, running through and around opposing backlines with ease.

This goal was no different and for her to do in the El Clásico against Real Madrid shows she’s never afraid of the moment. After darting in behind the defense, she still had a bit of work to do to open her body up for the shot.

Once she turned her body, Martens whipped in the curler with a defender nearby, making it look way too easy. Lieke Martens is a problem, and FC Barcelona will be favorites to win Primera Iberdrola and the UEFA Champions League.

2. Fridolina Rolfo – FC Barcelona

Speaking of Barcelona winning the UEFA WCL, they took a big step in doing so mid-week by beating a high-quality team like Arsenal. They didn’t just win; they dominated with a 4-0 win.

Fridolina Rolfo had the best goal of the bunch with this splendid strike. No one from Arsenal’s defense stepped up to Rolfo in time, and she made them pay. Rolfo curled it toward the far post, and the keeper was able to get a hand, but the power and pace of the shot were too much, as the ball bounced off her hand and into the net.

This goal seemed to be the knockout punch that Arsenal couldn’t recover from, all thanks to the quality of Fridolina Rolfo.

1. Kamila Dubcová – Sassuolo

The Czech international Kamila Dubcová wears the No. 10 for Sassuolo, which means she’s most likely one of their best players. Well, based on this goal of the season candidate, I can see why she has the No. 10 shirt.

There isn’t much initially on this play. Dubcová is on the edge of the area looking for space to shoot. Within a split second, she takes two quick touches to move away from two defenders before finally shooting with a third defender nearby.

The second angle of the goal does it justice because you can see her vantage point from the edge of the box. The ball flew into the net like a guided missile, almost as if it was destined for the net. It’s a stunning strike for the No. 1 spot from Kamila Dubcová.
