The Most Popular Majors for College Soccer Players

It’s crazy to look at some of our favorite USWNT players and think that they were once regular college students. Imagine sitting next to Alex Morgan in your 8am math class and trying not to fall asleep. Weird, right? But, sometimes it’s in college where the dream starts to become reality.

Many girls’ dream is to play college soccer. Of course, when you’re not on the field trying to impress, you’re in class working hard on your degree. Every soccerista takes a different path and pursues a different major. Some majors are more popular with college soccer players than other ones.

So we’ve decided to break down the most popular majors that socceristas major in college.

Communications

Communications is a very popular major with college students in general, so it’s no surprise that it is the most popular with socceristas. This major is designed to teach students about effective communication and how to apply it to different fields. These fields can vary from media, law, and business.

Some women in soccer who majored in communications include Hope Solo, Julie Ertz, and Tobin Heath. We’re sure the skills they learned have come in super helpful in their pro careers — whether it’s properly managing their social to creating their brand.

Sociology

Up next we have the social science major; Sociology. This major is the study of the development of social groups. Those who study this learn about society, social problems, social change, diversity, and interactions with and between social groups. Sociology covers a wide variety of topics.

Noteworthy superstars who pursued this major are Megan Rapinoe, Rose Lavelle, and Emily Sonnett. Sociology can help make you more aware of yourself as well as others; perfect for better understanding your teammates.

Kinesiology

Kinesiology is rightfully on the list since it is the study of body movement. Most coaches, physical therapists, or athletic trainers have pursued this major. Kinesiology majors learn all about anatomy and how organs function. They also learn how to understand the body’s physiological and biomechanical responses to excursive. Obviously, this is super useful knowledge for any athlete.

Two incredible socceristas who studied Kinesiology during their time in college are Alyssa Naeher and Morgan Brian.

Biology

Another popular major that female soccer players focus on in college is Biology. Biology is the science behind living organisms. These students learn about the origin and history of animals (including human beings!) and plant life, and their functions and characteristics. Again, knowing your body is a great advantage for any soccerista!

Science, Technology, and Society

Science, Technology, and Society (STS) is fairly a new major, but it seems like more and more socceristas are picking this field to follow. Students who pick STS to major in will learn how to examine the relationship between science and society. Just like some of the other majors, these students are curious about human behavior and society.

Were you a college soccer player? What major did you pursue? Or are you on your way to the play on the pitch in college? What major are you thinking of? Let us know down in the comment section.
