Debinha has made a name for herself in the NWSL and North Carolina. Now, she’s headed to Kansas City. Here are some things you should know about the best player (we mean it) in the NWSL.
1. She’s the 2021 Challenge Cup MVP
Debinha has been a force for the North Carolina Courage since joining the NWSL, and the 2021 Challenge Cup proved to be no different. She had three goals, a league-high, playing in all four contests for the Courage. She led the NC offense and created the spark that they needed throughout the tournament.
She’s no stranger to the MVP title, either; she was the 2019 Championship MVP. Additionally, she was named to the NWSL Team of the Month for July, August, and September 2019.
2. She’s a star for Brazil.
Soccer fans know that Marta has been the superstar for Brazil for many, many years, but Debinha is stepping into that role now. Marta took Debinha under her wing and she has become a big star for Brazil. Her footwork and skill on and off the ball have made Debinha a one-of-a-kind player. With Marta’s soccer career slowly coming to an end, Debinha is poised to lead Brazil for many years to come.
Additionally, FIFA nominated her for the FIFA Women’s Player award alongside other notable stars like Alex Morgan, Sam Kerr, Beth Mead, and Alexia Putellas. She’s truly world-class.
3. She just signed with the Kansas City Current.
The midfielder was with the North Carolina Courage since the team was relocated from New York. Since she joined the team in 2017, she helped them to win two NWSL Championships, three NWSL Shields, and the first International Champions Cup. In 2018, when the Courage had their best season, losing just one game, Debinha played in 23 games and had nine goals and two assists.
At the start of 2023, she announced she wouldn’t be returning to the Courage, which was a surprise to many. There was speculation she would join a team in England following the recent ACL tears of a couple of Arsenal attackers. However, the Kansas City Current announced her signing, and she’s sure to score plenty of goals for her new team.
4. She’s a consistent goal scorer.
Since joining the NC Courage, she has scored at least five goals in each regular season she has played with the club. Debinha has 42 total goals in all contests with the Courage.

She can score in every way possible, from right-footed bangers to chip shots to headers; Debinha’s arsenal is fully loaded, and when she has the ball, she’s a serious threat to the other team’s defense.
5. She has 129 caps for Brazil.
Debinha has become a mainstay for Brazil, earning her 100th cap in February of 2021. The 29-year-old made her senior national team debut in 2011. She has nearly 60 international goals and represented Brazil at the 2019 Women’s World Cup. Definitely keep your eye on her as she plays in the SheBelieves Cup with Brazil against the USWNT, Japan, and Canada.
