In this week’s women’s soccer news, we said goodbye to not one but two USWNT legends and began ushering in a new era for the team. We also saw some great NCAA action, and we can’t forget to mention some news off the pitch! So, without further ado, here’s this past week’s women’s soccer news recap!

Maybe it’s just a rumor and some very coincidental photos, but Kristie Mewis and Sam Kerr could be ENGAGED! Both players were spotted with rings on their left hand. We couldn’t be happier for them!
Low of the Weekend
INBOX: The #NWSL has issued a fine to San Diego Wave FC forward Alex Morgan for comments detrimental to the league made on social media on September 17, 2023, in violation of Section 12.2.5 (e) “Prejudicial Statements and Public Criticism” of the League Operations Manual.
— Jenna Tonelli (@jennatonelli) September 20, 2023
Alex Morgan got a fine for her tweet last week criticizing the lack of a penalty call on a foul against her during the San Diego Wave vs. Kansas City Current match.
There needs to be a way for criticism to happen without repercussions; otherwise, speaking up is discouraged, and problems won’t be addressed.
News of the Weekend
The two USWNT vs. South Africa friendlies sadly marked the farewell of two legendary players, Julie Ertz and Megan Rapinoe.
A goal would have been a cherry on top for Megan Rapinoe but this is a fitting ending. Her corner-kick service was always exquisite, including Olimpicos at two different Olympics. And the team celebration is pure joy. #USWNT pic.twitter.com/481HFNIpt6

In the second match, Rapinoe served in a corner kick that Emily Sonnet scored off of–not a bad way to end her career!
Additionally, Rapinoe is never at a loss for words, and her post-match speech had us all a little misty-eyed, including Lindsey Horan!
Game of the Weekend

The FSU vs. UNC game was one to watch! It had back-and-forth goal-scoring the entire match. FSU was down 2-3, and with less than ten seconds left in the game, fired in a corner kick that ricocheted and then volleyed it into the back of the net, tying it up.
Goal of the Weekend
This is another clutch last-second goal. Texas Tech took this long-range freekick, which somehow found the head of one of their players and went into the back of the net. Texas Tech triumphed over the Texas Longhorns!
Player of the Weekend
Trinity Rodman continues to prove she is the future of the USWNT. She earned Player of the Match in the second friendly and scored in both games!
Team of the Weekend
It’s official! Women’s professional soccer @NWSL is coming to the greatest sports town in the world. #NWSLBoston pic.twitter.com/ysmeprcdyf

Sorry… but our team of the week is one that doesn’t quite exist yet and won’t until 2026. The NWSL is heading to Boston!
