High of the Week

This week the NWSL announced that Prime Video has sent the green light for a four-part NWSL docuseries. The show will be called For The Win: NWSL and will be an in-depth behind-the-scenes look at the 2024 NWSL playoffs and Championship. It will feature players like Alex Morgan, Trinity Rodman, Marta, Croix Bethune, and more. The show was produced by Words + Pictures as well as Eli Manning and Alex Morgan. There is no premiere date set but hopefully, it’ll be soon.

It’s exciting news that the NWSL is continuing to build on its partnership with Prime Video. Prime began streaming select NWSL games during the 2024 season, and they’ll continue that trend during the 2025 season with 27 matches on the platform. They will also be the home of the 2025 Challenge Cup matchup between the Orlando Pride and Washington Spirit, which will kick off the NWSL season on March 7.

Low of the Week

During Manchester City’s WSL clash against Arsenal, Bunny Shaw was subjected to racist and misogynistic abuse. No player or person should ever have to deal with that and it’s quite sad and infuriating that it happened to Shaw. It was a day that should’ve been a celebration for Shaw as she made her 100th appearance in that match. Manchester City has confirmed that they have shared all the information with the authorities and there will be an investigation into the incident.

Shaw has taken some time away from the game and ruled herself out for Manchester City’s League Cup semifinal for her mental health. We hope that Shaw is doing what’s best for herself and that the people who did this are disciplined by the law.

Arsenal player, Lotte Wubben-Moy has spoken out in support of Shaw on social media.

News of the Week

The UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-finals are set after the draw was held on Friday. The first leg of the quarter-finals will take place on March 18 and 19 with each team playing a home and away series. The second leg will be held on March 26 and 27. The matchups are: Real Madrid vs. Arsenal, Bayern Munich vs. Olympique Lyon, Wolfsburg vs. Barcelona, and Manchester City vs. Chelsea.

Between the Women’s League Cup Final, WSL, and Champions League play Manchester City and Chelsea will see each other a total of four times in the span of 12 days. Barcelona are the current champions and their matchup against Wolfsburg will be a rematch of the 2023 final. The last time that Bayern and Lyon faced each other was 2021.

Player of the Week

Mary Fowler has been terrific for Manchester City this season. Manchester City faced off against Arsenal in the Women’s League Cup semi-final. Fowler found the back of the net twice in that matchup including a ridiculously placed shot from a tough angle. In their last five WSL matches, Fowler has scored five goals and tallied three assists. She has become a star player for City and has created a good partnership with Viviane Miedemma. Her six goals total for the season is a career-high for Fowler.

Win of the Week

The Portland Thorns announced their plans to build a dual-sport women’s training facility in partnership with the Portland WNBA team. RAJ Sports are the new owners of the Thorns as well as the WNBA expansion team. It’s huge news for the club and the league as owners are beginning to invest in dedicated facilities.

The facility will cost around $150 million and will be 63,000 square feet.  It will include things like two full-sized soccer and basketball courts, dedicated dressing rooms for each team, a dining room with a full-time chef, a 5,000-square-foot dynamic strength training facility, and more.

The club did not announce when construction on this project will take place.

Signing of the Week

NJ/NY Gotham got terrific news with the resigning of Midge Purce. Gotham has lost a ton of key players this season so it was important for the club to come to an agreement with Purce. She signed a one-year deal with the club. Purce has been with Gotham for five seasons and she was a big reason why Gotham won the 2023 NWSL Championship. Unfortunately, Purce suffered an ACL tear in March of 2024 and missed out on the whole season. The good news for Gotham fans is that Purce should be healthy for the start of the season.

Transfer of the Week

This week Angel City announced that they have acquired defender Savy King from Bay FC. Bay FC will receive $200,000 in intra-league transfer fees in 2025 and $100,000 in intra-league transfer fees in 2026. King is from Los Angeles so she returns home to become a key piece of the Angel City defense. King was the second overall pick in the 2024 NWSL Draft and she’ll be a great addition to this Angel City defense that’s looking to bounce back from a tough season.

What To Look Forward To

A new NWSL season means new jerseys for the clubs. It won’t be long before all the clubs start to unveil their new kits but Bay FC was the first to show off their new threads. They unveiled their 2025 primary kits this week and they are nice looking. It’s a dark blue/black color with a neat design and one interesting move is they have put the crest in the center of the jersey. We’ll have to see how they rank against all the other kits once they’re unveiled.
