Itโs already the second month of 2024! This means weโre inching closer to the start of the NWSL season and getting to watch our USWNT faves. Currently, the U-17 USYNT is competing in the CONCACAF Championships, international leagues are in action around the world, and the NWSL is just starting preseason. Read on for the past weekโs recap of womenโs soccer news.
High of the Weekendย
The USYNT is off to a tremendous start in the U-17 CONCACAF Championships. They beat Panama 13-0. Alex Pfeiffer and Kennedy Fuller both netted four goals each. The amount of talent on this team is special; a handful of the players are already playing professionally or have just recently signed pro contracts.ย
Up next for the USYNT is Canada. Theyโll be battling for the top spot in their group.ย
Low of the Weekend
Lindsey Horan was named captain of the #USWNT ahead of the World Cup. Now she leads through a time of transition โ and more than anything, she wants to think about the football.

The Athleticโs new interview with Lindsey Horan came out last week, and letโs just say many people were not thrilled with Horanโs comments about the intellect of American soccer fans. โAmerican soccer fans, most of them arenโt smart,โ she said. โThey donโt know the game. They donโt understand. (But) Itโs getting better.โย

Bay FC is making some sneaky good moves! It seemed like the team was getting off to a slow start, but in the last two weeks, theyโve signed Asisat Oshoala, Jen Beattie, and Deyna Castellanos. All three are coming from across the pond in Europe: Oshoala played for Barcelona, Beattie for Arsenal, and Castellanos for Manchester City.ย
Player of the Weekendย
Eugenie Le Sommer scored her 300th goal for Olympique Lyon, the first player to do so for the French club.ย
Upset of the Weekendย
The last-place team in the Liberty A-League, Canberra United, just beat the number-one team in the standings, Melbourne City. And not just by a little luck, they beat them 3-1!
What to Look Forward To
Keep your eyes peeled! The 23-player USWNT roster for the W Gold Cup will be announced sometime this week.
