Intro- 0:00-2:15
Mexico Stuns United States- 2:15-10:52
Mexico defeated the United States in the group stages of the Gold Cup, the second time that Mexico had ever done so. There’s a lot of context covered here with Los Angeles and Mexico; this episode was recorded before the USWNT bounced back and won the Gold Cup.
Julie Urhman Interview- 10:52- 21:33
This interview with Julie Urhman was recorded at the United Soccer Coaches Convention in Anaheim. Julie talks about the creation of the club, what means to be a part of the run to the playoffs last year and she owns up to the incident where she approached match officials.
Free Agency Moves
Bay FC Takeover
Racheal Kundananji signs world record transfer fee to Bay FC 789,000 dollars- 21:33-25:02
Bay FC has not played it safe, and the moves for Rachael Kundananji and Asisat Oshoala represent a new era in women’s soccer. The record transfer fee is huge because that number is going to go up. The higher that number gets, the bigger women’s soccer will get because there’s now money in women’s soccer. Bay FC is coming into attack mode in 2024.
Houston making big moves.
CeCe Kizer and Yuki Nagasato to Houston- 25:03-26:55
CeCe Kizer was traded from a situation she was happy in being closer to home in Kansas City. While the business behind the game has always been like this, Kizer has a chance to help bolster an offense that was the worst in the league last year. Plus, the addition of Yuki Nagasato could really open things up for someone like Maria Sanchez or Diana Ordonez.
Lena Oberdorf transfers to Bayern Munich- 27:00-30:22
The German Giants are coming for it all. Wolfsburg is better at developing talent, but Bayern will spend their money to try and catch up. It’s comical that they’ve waited this long simply because the women’s market exploded when they could’ve gotten ahead of it. If you’re Wolfsburg, how can you let a top 15 player in the world who is this young walk away like this? At least try to get more out of Bayern Munich because she will be worth twice that fee in 5 years.
Canada Lawsuit- 30:30-32:28
Canada sued the Canadian Soccer Federation for financial negligence. They’ve done more than anything the Canadian men have ever done, they deserve the money for everything they’ve achieved. You can name way more women’s Canadian players than men’s players.
Women’s Super League TV Deal- 32:30-33:54
The FA WSL will soon have primetime games on SkySports and BBC, which is huge for continued growth. Getting the women on TV in primetime in the UK is a big deal, considering how popular the men’s premier league is. However, it can only mean good things for the FA WSL.
American Soccer Players Signing in Europe- 33:55-34:57
Eva Gaetino signed with PSG, Julia Leas signed with Vittsjo in Sweden, Eleanor Dale signed with Everton. It’s great to see some college stars opt to go to Europe and still play at a high level.
Women’s Game- 35:00-35:40
Check out a new app just for women’s soccer called the Women’s Game! Available in the app store.
Outro- 35:45-End
