After commencing the inaugural season in August, there have been about six games played. Have you decided which team you’ll cheer on for the remainder of the season? With six games under their belt, Brooklyn FC currently stands in 3rd place with a record of 3-2-1. Attacking forward, Jess Garziano, stands out with her recent goal in the month of September. She also secured a spot in the USL Super League’s Team of the Month. As impressive as Brooklyn’s attacking force is with Garziano, the team has proven themselves defensively by only conceding three goals and obtaining three clean sheets.

Carolina Ascent FC

Former USWNT assistant coach Philip Poole heads the Carolina football club. Poole’s experience and knowledge have translated well, as the club sits at the top of the table. Similar to Brooklyn, Carolina has also earned three clean sheets. Goalkeeper Meagan McClelland and defensive center back Sydney Studer have held the backline down in fantastic fashion. Both players were named to the league’s Team of the Month for September.

Dallas Trinity FC

Rocking the color combo of burgundy and gold, the Dallas/Fort Worth squad knows how to get shots in the net. Although sitting at number five in the league standings, Dallas has recorded the most goals of the season with ten. Forward Allie Thorton has scored three goals for the season, placing her in the second spot for most goals in the USL Super League.

DC Power FC

DC Power FC sits in seventh place with a record of 1-4-3. Washington Spirit is a powerhouse club in the NWSL, so many fans in DC have gained another women’s soccer club to cheer on. With all eyes on the growing game of women’s soccer, DC Power may not have the challenge of gaining fans. Yet, to keep those fans, the squad should quickly look to improve their play. While being poor offensively and defensively, the DC club does pass a lot, which shows potential for developing the offense.

Fort Lauderdale United FC

The Fort Lauderdale squad gained an advantage over Brooklyn FC with a 1-0 victory in their previous match. This victory put them in the driver’s seat and put them in second place in league standings. FTL poses a threat offensively, as they have scored eight goals this season so far. Striker Addie McCain has notched over half of these goals, with five, making her the league’s top goal scorer.

Lexington SC

With no wins under their belt, Lexington is ranked in eighth place and has a record of 0-4-3. Although they’ve scored seven goals so far this season, Lexington has yet to record a clean sheet while also allowing the most goals scored, with fifteen. Lexington SC does have upsides to be content about, such as goalkeeper Bridgette Skiba’s 15 saves in the season so far. The game requires both offensive and defensive strength, which Lexington seeks to find a balance of before the season ends.

Spokane Zephyr FC

Currently in sixth place, Spokane Zephyr is not in the worst position but could definitely be in a better spot. Spokane haven’t been in consistent form with their previous matches ending in a draw, then a loss. Midfielders and defenders, such as Emina Ekic and Sarah Clark, have contributed to the offense with excellent passing. Ekic was named to September’s Team of the Month due to her goal in the opening match and her assist in the following match.

Tampa Bay Sun FC

TB Sun FC adds another club to cheer on if you’re a Floridian. Tampa sits in fourth place with a record of 2-1-3. A notable name on their roster is Erika Tymrak, who played some time on the USWNT and in the NWSL for clubs such as FC Kansas City, Orlando Pride, and the Utah Royals. The team has many masterminds in their organization to lean on, like their president, Christina Unkel, who was previously a FIFA referee and sports analyst. Tampa has all the tools needed to succeed in the league, but the chemistry and consistency continue to develop.

The USL Super League allows soccer lovers from different parts of America to reach their dreams. Plus, the USL Super League welcomes fans of the NWSL and USWNT to cheer on new and returning players. If there is no home-team in the Super League for you, look at the teams’ rosters, maybe a name will stand out to you; or watch a few highlights to see the high-level skill that’s on display. Whatever the case, always remember to cheer on the growth of women’s soccer!
