The Houston Dash have found themselves in the playoff scenario after an impressive turnaround this season. It looks likely that the Dash will make the playoffs for the first time in club history, led by coach Juan Carlos Amorós.

Juan Carlos Amorós

Assistant coach Sarah Lowdon deserves some of the credit for taking over the head coaching duties until Juan Carlos Amorós could arrive. Amorós has done well as the interim head coach of the Dash, and he should get the interim tag lifted during the offseason if he chooses to stay.

Amorós came to Houston from Spain, where he was most recently the head coach of Real Betis Féminas. The Dash have looked impressive this season, and Amorós gets some credit for their recent form.

Houston has gone through some roster changes losing their leader Rachel Daly this season as well as players like Kristie Mewis, Megan Montefusco, Haley Hanson, and Jasmyne Spencer. But, despite the changes that this club has gone through, they’ve put together a good season.

It’s unknown whether or not Amorós will get the interim title removed during the offseason, but he’s made a good case for himself leading this team at the end of the season.

Current streak

Going into the final matches of the regular season, the Dash find themselves in fifth place with 33 points, with one game to go. That total is already the most points they’ve earned in a season since joining the league.

During the 2021 season, they finished in seventh place with 32 points.

They’ve picked up five wins in their last ten games and have only lost twice in that span. In addition, the 33 goals scored so far this season are the most for the Dash since 2018 when they scored 35 on the season.

Ebony Salmon

When Houston traded for Ebony Salmon in June, it was a move to hopefully fill the hole that the departure of Rachel Daly left in the forward position. Since then, Salmon has really led the resurgence of this Dash team.

The English international has scored nine goals this season for the Dash and is in incredible form. Even though she joined the team midway through the season, she is the team leading goal scorer. She scored a hat trick against the Chicago Red Stars in her third game for the Dash.

Salmon really never found her form with Racing Louisville, but she’s hit her stride in Houston, helping lead the Dash’s playoff push. Replacing Daly isn’t an easy task for this club, but they’ve found a proven goalscorer in Salmon who seems to be fitting in nicely.
