North Carolina Coaching Excellence: Sean and Damon Nahas

This 2024 women’s soccer season was a successful one for the state of North Carolina. This is in part due to two brothers paving the way as head coaches for the University of North Carolina and North Carolina Courage. Sean Nahas is the current head coach for North Carolina Courage, a top NWSL team. All the while, Damon Nahas had recently led the University of North Carolina to another NCAA Championship. Their leading abilities and strategic play of the game have defined the two brothers as coaching excellence.

Nahas has been with NC Courage since its inception in 2017. He worked his way up from assistant coach and director of the US Soccer Development Academy to becoming the interim head coach in 2021. A year after becoming head coach, he led NC Courage to winning the NWSL Challenge Cup. During their 2023 season, NC Courage placed third in the league standings, showing improvement from its prior seasons and winning the NWSL Challenge Cup for the second year in a row. NC Courage also had the MVP of the season, Kerolin.

Despite only coaching the team for three seasons, Nahas’s coaching experience is incredibly evident in the team’s style of play. He holds value on transition moments in the game and holds composure and awareness in the game.
