If there’s one thing the NWSL has, it’s style – and today we’re talking hairstyles. There is something about pro athletes and wicked hairstyles that just seem to go hand in hand. Here are some of the players of the NWSL with the best signature hairstyles and hair accessories.
Jessica McDonald
Whether she’s on the field for the NC Courage or the USWNT, Jessica McDonald is always killing the hair game. She is one of the few, and certainly the most popular NWSL player to be sporting locs. Whether they’re pulled back in a low ponytail or kept back with a simple headband, McDonald’s gold locs are the definition of signature. McDonald wears this style with pride and we absolutely love it.
Sophia Smith
Sophia Smith of the Portland Thorns can be seen sporting a standard pony, but she’s been known to style it up as well. Smith has a collection of scrunchies and bows that she likes to tote out now and then. Whether it’s her bright pink bunny ears bow or her simple white tie, Sophia rocks the look.
Shea Groom
Houston Dash striker Shea Groom has a scrunchie game like no other. Generally sporting a high pony on game day, Groom snatches her hair up with scrunchies that can bee seen from the stands. Usually in a soft pink or grey, the material is what makes them stand out. Sporting a velvet scrunchie is definitely the move.
Paige Monaghan
Gotham FC’s Paige Monaghan gives us serious 80s vibes with her scrunchie game. This forward prefers a big bright scrunchie to a standard hair tie. She’s been spotted with scrunchies of just about every color. From neon green to sky blue, Monaghan puts a pop of color into every game.
Becky Sauerbrunn
Sauerbrunn has had a long soccer career, from the USWNT to the four teams she’s played for in the NWSL, her braided ponytail has always been there. While most players go for a simple pony tail, the current Portland Thorns defender often takes the time to add a braid. On the rare occasion she’s seen without the braid it’s usually replaced by a twisted bun.
Ashlyn Harris
When it comes to signature style, Ashlyn Harris is hard to beat. Harris, currently of Orlando Pride, has had several hair journeys throughout her career but her current ‘do is definitely a favorite. On the field she ties her bleach-blonde-dark-roots hair into a half pony. Off the pitch she wears it tosseled or slicked back – depending on if she’s spending the day with wife Ali Kreiger and baby Sloan or gracing the cover of a magazine – but in the net, you’re almost certain to see that little pony.
Jorian Baucom
Not only does Racing Louisville’s Jorian Baucom rock her natural hair, but she also inspires young socceristas to do the same. Her signature high bun is almost always completed with smoothed edges. This forward puts goals in the net in complete style.
