Midge Purce is one of the most exciting young players to watch in 2021. She’s making an impact in the NWSL and is doing her best to break into the uber-competitive USWNT player pool. Women’s soccer fans will be seeing a lot more of the Olney, Maryland native, so let’s get to know more about her.
She Had an Impressive USWNT Debut
Midge Purce earned USWNT call-ups in both 2017 and 2018. However, she didn’t end up making her debut until November 10, 2019. She played for the full 90 minutes in the USโ 6-0 win over Costa Rica. Purce had to wait a bit longer to get her first USWNT goal; on January 22, 2021, Purce scored in the US’s 6-0 over Colombia.

She has the Potential to be a Great Attacking Player
The Boston Breakers selected Purce ninth overall in the 2017 NWSL College Draft. She’s been an NWSL staple ever since and even made a case for her attacking capabilities during her time with the Portland Thorns, once scoring five goals in the space of just five games.
In 2020, Purce was traded to Sky Blue FC, a team that will really look to use Purce’s attacking strengths to their advantage.
She Went To Harvard
Purce started her freshman year of college at Harvard in 2013. By that point, her soccer abilities were already well-known and some of the top soccer programs in the country were eager for Purce to join their ranks. But when it came to choosing a college, Purce couldn’t turn down Harvard.
She Wants to Pursue a Career in Law
Purce was a standout star at Harvard. She scored 42 goals during her Harvard career, earned Ivy League Player of the Year honors twice, and was also a two-time All-American.
But you don’t go to Harvard to become a professional soccer player. Purce’s off-field focus was setting herself up for a future beyond soccer. While Purce studied psychology during her undergraduate years, law school is in her future.
She is on the Harvard Board of Overseers

After she completed an extensive petition process and gathered thousands of signatures from Harvard alumni, Purce began her run for the Harvard Board of Overseers in 2020. Ultimately, she was elected and her term will go all the way through Commencement 2026.
Of the remarkable achievement, Purce said, โI feel privileged to be in this position where I can serve the alumni, every current student, and the entire university. I began this process with the intent to serve, and I will not forget that.”
She’s Got Great Taste in Food
Midge Purce is a girl who loves food. If thereโs one thing she has expressed to fans is that she knows a good amount of food. But her favorite food is General Tsoโs chicken. But donโt count out wings, because she also loves Honey BBQ wings.
Sheโs a Sneaker-head
Midge Purce’s sneaker collection is truly impressive, and this image of her closet speaks for itself.
