Soccer is one sport that almost every kid can say they have gotten the opportunity to play. Some continue playing and some part ways with the game. For those that stick with it one main factor that helps keep players in love with the game is their coach. A coach that is capable of bringing a group of girls or boys and creating a family-like environment is one that will be successful.
Due to the current state of the world, soccer coaches and players have been put through many difficulties and uncertainties. Will there be a season? How will I stay in shape? How long will we go without practices or games? With the endless amount of questions and no certain answers, coaches have stepped up and altered training plans, team bonding sessions and had to adjust their coaching plans for months to quickly adjust to the world shutting down.
Team practices turned into individual workouts at home. Team bonding turned into Zoom calls. But, throughout all the uncertainties and rapid changes over the the past few months, coaches have been there for their players. They’ve gone above and beyond to make sure every player remains at the top of their game. Whether it’s been training virtually or jumping on a call to explain a drill, coaches have made it possible to stay in the game.
Despite the common annoyance of “bring your sneakers to practice” or shouts during a game, soccer coaches play a key role in a player’s success. Whether it is putting in a good word to a college coach, or staying after to help you practice shooting with your weak foot, coaches are always there.
Growing up I had several coaches, but I owe a lot of my success as a player to my two club soccer coaches who have been with me since I was eight years old. They pushed me to exceed my potential as a player and they were always there for me no matter what. Shout-out Jaime and Coach Brian for helping me achieve my goal of playing Division I college soccer and for continuing to be my role models to this day. Having great coaches growing up has inspired me to take on the role of being a coach and passing on my love for the game to the younger generations.
As much as your coach may strictly instruct you or make you run until you can’t feel your legs they are doing it because they care and want you to be successful. Appreciate the coaches in your life that will help you become the best player you can be and enjoy every moment!
