The 2023 SheBelieves Cup featured the United States, Canada, Brazil, and Japan. The stiff competition provided each team with three challenging matchups as they continued preparations for the World Cup. The 2023 tournament was the eighth installment of the tournament, and here are five of the best moments from the 2023 SheBelieves Cup.
Mallory Swanson
Mallory Swanson was more than just a moment; she was the highlight of the SheBelieves Cup for the US. There isn’t a player on more of a hot streak than her at the moment. Swanson has been in terrific form and was named the tournament’s MVP after scoring four goals in three matches. The forward has scored in the last six USWNT games that she’s appeared in.
With many questions still surrounding this USWNT as we draw closer to the World Cup, one sure thing is that Swanson will play a massive part for this team in July.

USWNT Lift The Trophy
The USWNT won the tournament for a fourth straight time and sixth overall win, picking up three straight wins in the tournament. The team conceded only one goal throughout the SheBelieves Cup, with that goal coming in their last match against Brazil.
The tournament was a much-needed test for the USWNT against quality opponents. They were able to put together three impressive games, and while there’s still a lot of work to be done before the World Cup, it was a positive sign for this team as they look to win their third straight World Cup.

Showing Solidarity with Canada
The Canadian Women’s National Team has been going through a tough battle with their Federation for equal pay and resources. The Canadian players held out from practice before being forced to play in the tournament to avoid sanctions from Canada Soccer. Ahead of the match against the USWNT, they wore their warm-up shirts inside out as a form of protest.
Throughout the tournament, they also wore purple wristbands, and the USWNT and Japan joined in this as well, showing their support for them.
Marta Returning
Marta tore her ACL on March 26, 2022, while playing for the Orlando Pride. Flash forward 11 months, and the star forward made her return to the field for Brazil in their match against Japan. In her first action of the match, she provided the assist for the game-winning goal.

Alex Morgan Scores Her 14th Goal as a Mom
Morgan has been terrific since returning from giving birth to her daughter Charlie. In the match against Brazil, Morgan scored her 14th goal as a mom breaking the record for most goals scored by a mom in USWNT history. Joy Fawcett previously held the record.
