The Highest Salaries in Women’s Soccer in 2025

The women’s soccer market continues to grow at an exponential pace. The record transfer fee was once again broken, with Chelsea spending $1.1 million to acquire Naomi Girma. As the transfer fees go up, player salaries will start to go up as well. It’s appalling to think only one player is a millionaire off of their salary alone, but that will change in the next few years. If you’ve ever wondered what the top players in the world get paid, look no further. Here are the highest salaries in women’s soccer in 2025.

Aitana Bonmati – Barcelona ($1.1 million)

I don’t think this should come as a surprise to anyone, considering she’s now a two-time Ballon d’Or winner. The Barcelona superstar is only 26 and entering her prime which is why her salary is where it is. This right now is the standard for women’s soccer. Until a player better than Bonmati comes along or a club gets a big cash infusion, $1.1 million seems like a figure that may stand for the next year or two before someone surpasses it.

Alexia Putellas – Barcelona ($670,000)

Prior to Aitana Bonmati becoming the best player in the world, the title was held by Alexia Putellas. Putellas won a Ballon d’Or to go with 30 trophies won over the course of her storied career. Putellas has two years left on her contract, but it’s her playing form that will dictate the next contract she receives. Whether it’s a pay bump or decrease, it’s too soon to tell, but Putellas deserves this number regardless.

Sam Kerr – Chelsea ($541,000)

Sam Kerr has been one of the most prolific strikers in the world for quite some time. The Aussie is the only player to win a Golden Boot in three different leagues, which justifies the money she got. Chelsea spared no expense to ensure they added one of the best in the game. The only thing Kerr can do now to pay this team back is win a Champions League title.

Sophia Smith – Portland Thorns ($500,000)

The Portland Thorns were wise in securing their most valuable player, Sophia Smith. Smith has said she’s happy in Portland and doesn’t have plans to move to Europe. What’s interesting is if this were five years ago, would Portland have had this money ready for Sophia Smith? I truly believe Smith would’ve considered leaving, but because of the amount they could pay her, she ensured that she was in Portland for the long haul. The Thorns plus Nike and her brand as a player makes too much sense. The salary was just the icing on the cake.

Ada Hegerberg – Lyon ($470,000)

Ada Hegerberg, Sam Kerr, and Sophia Smith have battled it out for the title of the best striker in the world for the last few years. As expected all three salaries are right in the ballpark of each other, highlighting why teams spend the most money on strikers. A consistent goal-scorer is the most important thing in soccer. This fee of $470,000 is her last reported salary, but there are unsubstantiated reports that it’s closer to Alexia Putellas’ salary. For the sake of accuracy, I’ll stick with the most recent number that’s been confirmed. The point still remains: Hegerberg is one of the world’s best and is compensated accordingly.

Mayra Ramirez – Chelsea ($470,000)

The rich got richer when Chelsea bolstered their attack with the signing of Mayra Ramirez. The Colombian signed from Levante, and her contact speaks volumes about what Chelsea thinks of her. Ramirez had yet to play a game for Chelsea, and they had no hesitation paying her what Ada Hegerberg makes, who is a far more established striker. Of course, Ramirez has lived up to the hype and has shown why she’s worth this much money, and she could get a bigger deal in the future.

Honorable Mention: Naomi Girma – Chelsea

Naomi Girma is heading to London after Chelsea beat out Lyon in the bidding war for her services. Her salary information has yet to be released, but considering she’s the youngest player on this list, her salary has to be somewhere in the top five. The market might rate defenders to have a lower salary, but if Chelsea is serious about keeping her for many years, they have to pay her. Chelsea broke the transfer record to sign Girma, which means they will make sure that she is properly compensated as the best defender in the world.
