The Women’s Euro this year was one never to forget. Sixteen nations competed for the title of European champion. The host country England ultimately took home that name. Throughout the tournament, there were monumental moments, from goals to saves to broken records and more. In no particular order, we look at the top ten moments from the Women’s Euro.

There’s no way we could leave this goal out; it was a work of art. Alessia Russo was excellent coming off the bench for England throughout the tournament, and this is just one moment of her creativity and skill.
2. Chloe Kelly’s goal in overtime in the Women’s Euro final

England and Germany were tied 1-1 up until the second period of extra time in the final game. Chloe Kelly cleaned up the scraps of a corner kick to put them ahead. The moment she waited to check if the goal stood to take off her jersey and go full Brandi Chastain was priceless.
3. Northern Ireland’s Women’s Euro debut
One country was new to the tournament this year–Northern Ireland. The team had never before qualified for the Women’s Euro, so this was its first time. Even though they lost all of their matches, they did score a goal against Norway. And, it’s always great to see a nation up and coming in the game.
4. Manuela Zinsberger’s goalkeeping for Austria
One of the best goalkeepers in the tournament has got to be Manuela Zinsberger for Austria. The nation only conceded three goals in the whole tournament, including their quarterfinal match against Germany, where they lost 2-0. However, Austria might have lost by even more if it weren’t for Zinsberger in goal.
5. Coach Sarina Weigman won two Euros in a row
Coach Sarina Weigman coached the Netherlands to their championship in 2017 and replicated that this year with England. She’ll go down in history for her success. Interestingly, both tournaments were won by the host nation.
6. England vs. Germany was the highest attended Euro match ever
The championship game was the highest attended Euro match in history–out of men’s and women’s tournaments–with 87,192 in the stands. Additionally, six more attendance records were broken throughout the tournament. Overall, viewership was up 58% from 2017.
7. Alexandra Popp’s impressive form

Watching Alexandra Popp was a treat. She was in excellent form in this tournament. She and Beth Mead were in a tie race for the Golden Boot. Mead ultimately earned it because she has more assists. Nonetheless, Popp had an outstanding run in the tournament and scored some incredible goals.
8. France showed up with goals to score
France had its moment this year as they moved into the tournament’s semifinals. After not qualifying for the 2020 Olympics, there were some doubts about the team. However, forward Grace Geyoro scored a hat trick in the first half against Italy, leaving the final score 5-1. Also, France beat Norway 8-0.
9. Spain showed out as a team
Spain also did really well, despite losing their star player Alexia Putellas to an ACL injury. Even though they didn’t make it past the quarterfinals, they’re a team who has been expected to dominate for years, and it looks like they might be growing into that. Overall, Spain is another team we’ll be looking out for in upcoming years.
10. Referee Kateryna Monzul reffed the Women’s Euro final after fleeing from Ukraine
Earlier this year, Kateryna Monzul decided to leave her home country, Ukraine, to escape the war.
