Top 5 Goals: Barclays FA WSL Matchday 9

Thank goodness for the Barclays FA WSL. As the only league in play that Americans have easy access to, it’s a welcome distraction. In addition, the title race is heating up and each passing match increases in importance. Let’s take a closer look at the Top FA WSL goals from the past week’s action.

Sam Kerr’s Chelsea career got off to a slow start but she’s starting to find her scoring form at the right time. Kerr and Chelsea’s other new addition, Pernille Harder, linked up nicely for one of the top FA WSL goals from the week. The ball from Harder was driven with pace giving Kerr the ability to attack the header and beat the keeper. This is the Chelsea that we expect to see.

The Dutch striker has 11 goals on the season and is an unstoppable force for Arsenal. Manchester City paid dearly for this mistake at the back which Miedema pounced on immediately. Her finish was as precise as could be as the ball nestled into the far corner – a sumptuous finish.

3. Emily Van Egmond – West Ham Women

Martha Thomas did all the hard work here as she chased down the ball to keep it in play. On top of that, she still had the energy to cross the ball in for Emily Van Egmond. The Matildas veteran has a knack for scoring cheeky goals which she displayed with this one-touch flick into the net. West Ham won 3-0 comfortably, in part because of this all-around great goal.

This goal features a bit of finesse and class from Nadine Hanssen of the Netherlands. Hanssen has the awareness to notice the keeper is off her line and then the guile – and audacity – to exploit it. One touch is all it takes to chip the keeper. It’s a simply ruthless finish from a Dutch player coming into her own at Aston Villa.

It does not get more dramatic or exciting than this when it comes to matches of this gravitas. Manchester City and Arsenal, two teams, firmly in the title race, went toe-to-toe in Manchester. Arsenal will hate watching the game film back to see how they once again failed to clear their lines at the very end of the match. Caroline Weir pounced on the chance and caressed the ball into the far corner to win it for City. This could be a pivotal moment in the Barclays FA WSL title race.
