Top 5 Goals: Liga F and the Women’s Super League

England and Spain feature two of the best women’s soccer leagues in the world, with Liga F and the Barclays Women’s Super League. Some of the world’s best players produced some spectacular moments during the week, including two incredible set-pieces, two scorpion kick goals, and a crafty team goal to round out the list. Here are the Top 5 Goals from the Barclays Women’s Super League and Liga F.

5. Erin Cuthbert – Chelsea

Chelsea’s last year with Emma Hayes at the helm is going as well as you’d expect. The Blues keep winning with four wins in a row, and seeing team goals like this makes it easy to see why they’re so good.

Within a span of seconds, Chelsea’s midfield and frontline combined for five lightning-quick passes, bypassing Everton’s defense. Erin Cuthbert continued her run while play was developing and calmly slotted the ball home to complete a gorgeous and smooth team goal.

4. Claudia Pina – Barcelona

Barcelona’s team is loaded with superstars, it’s unfair for a lot of the teams in Liga F. Alexia Putellas and Aitana Bonmati have won the Ballon d’Or back to back years and Carolina Graham Hansen is on the verge of winning it this year. The point is I didn’t even mention Claudia Pina, who often gets overlooked by the aforementioned trio. Pina is only 22, highlighting the fact that Barcelona has incredible talent in the pipeline.

This free kick goal is world class and inch-perfect, the goalie tried to dive but she didn’t need to, that’s how well Pina struck the ball. Honestly, this Barcelona team is scary and will go down in history as one of the best that has ever been assembled.

3. Anita Marcos – Valencia

Valencia had a rough go against Real Madrid, losing 7-1 over the weekend. However, the one goal they scored was the best of the match, coming from Anita Marcos.

Marcos managed to pull off something that’s incredibly hard to do. Marcos had her back to goal, and the cross that came in ended up right at her feet. The Spanish international made an amazing adjustment to the ball. Marcos managed to redirect the ball into the net while falling down with a defender on her back. The difficulty level is at an all-time high. Most players would make themselves look silly attempting something like this.

Yet, Marcos has made something difficult look easy. She’s a player to watch and likely won’t be at Valencia much longer.

2. Lauren Hemp – Manchester City

Lauren Hemp’s goal was very similar to Anita Marcos’ goal and what are the odds of seeing two scorpion kick goals like these in the same week? Hemp’s finish in midair gets the nod over Marcos’ because the ball was higher in the air and the cross didn’t have nearly as much pace on it.

Hemp threw her entire body behind the redirect to find the back of the net. She wanted it more than the defender. Hemp’s reactions are incredible and her placement to find the net was perfect. Lauren Hemp is severely underrated, but hopefully, goals like these will help her get more respect.

1. Chloe Kelly – Manchester City

Chloe Kelly is a special player who has come through for club and country time and time again. Whenever someone scores from a corner kick, it’s hard to determine whether it was intended or not. My theory is Kelly intended to do this based on her run-up to the ball. Kelly lifted her arm in the air but then, while running up, took a quick hitch and stopped as if she saw something before taking it. Then notice the flight of the ball, it looked like an adjustment that Kelly made at the last second to curl toward the far post and into the net. It’s a brilliant goal from Chloe Kelly, the icon.
