Top Scorers Roundup: Who’s Leading in Goals Across the Leagues

There are some terrific goal-scorers all around the world. The NWSL is winding down, but a bunch of women’s soccer leagues are just getting started.

Here’s a look at some of the top goal scorers so far in each league around the world.

 

NWSL

The NWSL regular season closed, and the Golden Boot picture became very clear. It was a tight race with a ton of players having great seasons.

Alex Morgan (15) – San Diego Wave

Morgan will come away with the golden boot after scoring 15 goals in 17 games leading the San Diego Wave to the playoffs in their first year. The Wave became the first expansion side to make the playoffs in their inaugural season. Morgan had her best professional season yet. Before this season, the most goals she had in a single season was nine.

Sophia Smith (14) – Portland Thorns

Smith made the Golden Boot race interesting up until the very end, finding the back of the net twice in the Portland Thorns regular-season finale. In just her second full season, Smith had 14 goals in 18 matches for the Thorns and was the leader of an explosive Portland offense that scored 46 goals this season.

 

FA WSL

The 2022-23 Women’s Super League season began on September 16, so it’s still early on in the season, but some goal scorers are emerging already. Last season Sam Kerr led the league with 20 goals, but so far, she’s only got one goal through three games.

Beth Mead (3) – Arsenal

Arsenal is a high-scoring team historically, and the 2022-23 season has started off the same way. Through the first two matches, they’ve got two wins and have scored eight goals in the process. Mead accounts for three of those goals so far.

Rachel Daly (3) – Aston Villa

After spending six seasons in the NWSL with the Houston Dash, Daly joined Aston Villa ahead of the season. It’s an Aston Villa team that needed a goal scorer, and they’ve found that with Daly, who has three goals in two matches leading her team to a 2-0 start after going 6-3-13 last season.

 

D1 Arkema

This is another league that has just kicked off. Last season Marie Antoinette Katoto was the leading goal scorer with 18 goals for Paris St. Germain.

Danielle van de Donk (3) – Lyon

Through three games, she’s already equaled her goal tally from last season with three goals. Lyon is off to a good start with three wins, scoring ten goals in the process.

Kadidiatou Diani (3) – Paris St. Germain

Diani has continued her goal-scoring ways this season with four goals through four matches. Diani scored 13 goals each season for four out of her five total seasons with the club.

 

Liga Mx

Liga Mx Femenil is wrapping up its season, with Guadalajara currently in first place with two weeks of play left to go.

Christina Burkenroad (14) – Monterrey

Burkenroad is leading Monterrey with 14 goals this season, with her team currently sitting in second place with 36 points as the regular season winds down.

Mia Fishel (14) – Tigres

Fishel made a lot of news when she opted not to play in the NWSL and instead joined Tigres in Mexico. So far this season, she’s lived up to the hype with 14 goals and four assists.

 

Primera Division

This is another league that’s in the early stages of its season. Last season Asisat Oshoala and Geyse Ferreira were the league’s top scorers, with 20 goals each.

Geyse Ferreira (3) – Barcelona

In her first season with Barcelona, Ferreira has three goals in just three league matches. Barcelona is currently at the top of the table through the first couple of games.

Ludmila (3) – Atletico Madrid

Ludmila is a player that has been with Atletico Madrid since 2017 and has become a key piece of the offense. The Brazilian has three goals in three games this season for the club.
