Trinity Rodman’s Journey to Become the Highest Paid NWSL Player

Trinity Rodman is keeping her word about making a name for herself in professional soccer. Her list of accomplishments at such a young age is quite impressive. It’s hard to believe that she has only been in the league for a brief time.

Her identity as famous NBA player Dennis Rodman’s daughter is becoming less prevalent as she continues to prove herself on the field. While the connection to her father may forever be acknowledged, Trinity gives her last name a new narrative.

Now the highest-paid player in the NWSL, she has quickly become one of the biggest faces in the sport. If her near 86 thousand followers on Instagram are any indication, her popularity will only continue increasing.

But how did this talented young player get to where she is now? Let’s take a deeper dive into the making of this rising star.

Where it all began

Rodman first stepped on the pitch at age four and has played soccer ever since. She joined the So Cal Blues at age 10, winning four national championships with them. While there, the team remained undefeated for five years.

Later, the young striker represented the U.S. playing for the U-17 and U-20 youth national teams. She played in the 2018 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup and the Concacaf Women’s U-20 Championship, scoring two goals to help lead the team to victory.

The road to professional soccer

Unlike many NWSL players, Trinity Rodman did not enter the league with college playing experience. Though she initially committed to play at Washington State University, she ultimately passed on a college career to enter the 2021 NWSL Draft

Rodman was selected as the second overall pick by the Washington Spirit at 18-years-old. She became the youngest player to be drafted in NWSL history.

Rodman is currently eligible age-wise for the 2022 U-20 FIFA Women’s World Cup, though she recently accepted her first call-up to the USWNT. In addition, she was officially added to the roster for the 2022 SheBelieves Cup last month.

Incredible achievements

In Rodman’s inaugural 2021 season, she started 22 of 25 games played, in which she was only subbed off eight times. She scored seven goals and seven assists had 40 key passes and 36 shots on goal.

Rodman was named 2021 NWSL Rookie of the Year, 2021 U.S. Soccer Young Female Player of the Year, and 2021 NWSL Best XI First Team. She provided the game-winning assist that made her an NWSL Champion in her first season with the Washington Spirit.

Her achievements extend beyond the field, adding “author” as the latest title to her growing list. Trinity recently teamed up with Adidas to promote her new children’s book, “Wake Up and Kick It,” which she says inspires children to be active.

In her brief time in the big leagues, Trinity Rodman has shown that she will put in the work to evolve into an even greater player. As she continues to absorb the vast experience from her fellow players, she will undoubtedly be a powerhouse. We’re excited to see all that she will do next!
