The USWNT has had some seriously awesome celebrations over the years. With the 2020 Olympics back on for 2021, we’re sure to be in store for more. Here are a few of the best USWNT celebrations from throughout the years.
Chastain in ’99
We would be remiss to start this list with any moment other than Brandi Chastain’s World Cup-winning PK celebration. No matter how old, every soccerista knows this iconic moment. After putting the final PK in the net, Chastain tore off her shirt in utter joy. This celebration sparked controversy across the sports world. But all of these years later, Chastain’s shining moment has been immortalized in bronze outside of that same stadium.
Alex Morgan Sipping Tea
No. 13 on her birthday. In honor of those 13 colonies.
That’s. The. Tea ??????
Go on, @alexmorgan13, what a birthday! pic.twitter.com/Rge0HMMrCk

This was the sip heard ‘round the world. Alex Morgan caught a lot of flack for this particular celebration after scoring against England in the 2019 World Cup. Pantomiming sipping tea to the world after scoring against England was on the nose, to say the least. Morgan’s celebration quickly became one of the most talked-about events of the tournament.
Confetti Angels
After the USWNT won their fourth World Cup title, a few of the players decided to throw it back to childhood. The confetti was raining, fans and players were cheering; it was pure excitement. While the rest of the team embraced and basked in the moment, Crystal Dunn, Morgan Brian, and Julie Ertz made confetti angels. This celebration is such a pure moment of joy it’s hard not to relive the thrill of the tournament after seeing it.
Megan Rapinoe Cradle
Come for the @mPinoe goal, stay for the Sloane-inspired celebration ❤️ @alikrieger & @Ashlyn_Harris pic.twitter.com/K56j6WPi4Q

Rapinoe’s 2019 World Cup celebration has become synonymous with her name. You know the one, standing tall, arms up and out, ready to receive her praise. But this one has a bit more of a sentimental vibe. After scoring the USWNT’s second and winning goal in their match against Brazil in the 2021 SheBelieves Cup, Rapinoe made a rocking motion with her arms and sealed it with a kiss. For those not in the know, the gesture seemed strange for a goal celebration. However, Rapinoe’s celebration was a shout-out to her new baby niece, the daughter of Ashlyn Harris and Ali Krieger, Sloane.
Cartwheels in 2012
Back in 2012, the USWNT had a pretty silly way of celebrating their entry into the Olympic semi-finals. To celebrate Abby Wambach’s goal against New Zealand, she and the rest of the team on the field broke out in cartwheels and flips. Wambach, Megan Rapinoe, Alex Morgan, Tobin Heath, Kelly O’Hara, and the rest of the team all took their turn doing the stunt. This was reportedly a tribute to the US gymnastics team and Gabby Douglas for their incredible showing at the games.
This team has honored some of their brightest moments in many different ways. From the silly to the serious, watching them celebrate and doing so right along with them is part of the game. With soccer finally picking back up, we are excited to see what moments and what kind of celebrations are in store next.
