Who Are the Youngest Players in the FA WSL?

The new season of the Women’s Super League brings exciting new faces to the league. The 2022/23 FA WSL season kicked off on September 16. It’s been an exciting start to the season, with Arsenal leading the league in the standings. We look at some of the youngest players currently playing in the league.

Olivia McLoughlin, 17 – Aston Villa

First on our list of youngest players is Olivia McLoughlin. The midfielder was part of the WSL Academy at Aston Villa before joining the first team during the 2020/21 season. McLoughlin made her debut for the team at just 16 when she subbed in against Man City in 2021. She has been involved in the England youth national teams throughout her career so far and is currently playing for the U19 team.

This season she’s appeared in three matches with one start so far.

Alex Hennessy, 17 – West Ham United

Hennessey joined West Ham in July ahead of the WSL season. She started at Arsenal, where she made her debut at 16. Last season Hennessy went on loan to Crystal Palace, where she made nine appearances and scored one goal. The youngster has yet to make her debut for West Ham this season.

The forward is currently playing with England’s U19 team as they look to qualify for the UEFA Women’s U19 Euros.

Carrie Jones, 19 – on loan to Leicester City

Jones joined Manchester United’s academy team in 2021 and made her debut for the full team in 2021. The forward joined Leicester City on loan for the 2022/23 season and has started three of Leicester’s five league matches so far. Jones played a full 90 against Aston Villa.

At just 15, she made her debut for the senior Wales national team and played a big part in the team’s FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying matches.

 

Hanna Bennison, 19 – Everton

Bennison is an exciting young player that joined Everton in 2021. She made her professional debut at 15 with Rosengard in Sweden. So far this season, she’s appeared in three games, scoring one goal.

The Swedish international made her debut for the senior team at 17 and currently has 29 caps for Sweden. The forward was part of the silver medal-winning Swedish team at the 2020 Olympic Games.

Faye Kirby, 18 – Liverpool

Last on our list of youngest players in the FA WSL is Faye Kirby. Kirby is a young goalkeeper that joined Liverpool in September. She spent her youth career at Everton’s Academy before signing with Liverpool. She’ll be the third-string keeper, but she’ll be able to learn from veteran Rachael Laws while training in a professional environment. Kirby could be a name to watch in the coming years.

The goalie is also part of the England U19 team.
