This past week was filled with a ton of great and exciting moments in the world of women’s soccer. There was the NWSL draft, European leagues resuming, and Australia’s and Mexico’s leagues going strong. Plus, we have so much to look forward to this week with the USWNT’s friendlies against New Zealand. So, without further ado, here’s the past week’s need-to-know women’s soccer news.
High of the Weekend

The NWSL draft took place last week, and it was one for the books! Angel City FC signed Alyssa Thompson, who was previously committed to playing at Stanford but forwent her college career to become a pro.
Kansas City made a trade with Gotham FC last minute to take Michelle Cooper second pick.
Overall there were a ton of great moments, and it’s exciting to preview the young talent we’ll be seeing in the NWSL this year.
Low of the Weekend
Beth Mead announced that her mother passed away last week. Our hearts go out to her and her family at this deeply sad time. However, one bright light is the immense support the soccer community has shown her.
News of the Weekend
FIFA announced the nominees for best player, best goalkeeper, and other categories. Alex Morgan is a nominee for best player, and Alyssa Naeher for best goalkeeper. Public voting is open now!
Transfer of the Weekend

Two massive transfers happened this week, with Lynn Williams heading to Gotham FC and Diana Ordonez heading to Houston. On her Instagram she expressed her shock at the trade but is looking forward to her new team. Courage captain Abby Erceg tweeted her disappointment in her teammate’s trade. The Courage will definitely have their work cut out for them after losing Debinha and their rookie star.
Team of the Weekend
The Current looks quite a bit different from last year, and they looked surprisingly good last year. With the addition of Debinha, Michelle Cooper, and a couple of players from the Chicago Red Stars, the Current looks like they’ll contend for the NWSL title again.
Plus, last week, the team gained another member to their ownership group. Owner Brittany Mahomes’s husband and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has joined in to make it a family affair!

This goal from Everton is just so smooth. The passing and the connections leading up to the goal are what we love to see! Everton ended up beating Reading 3-2.
