FootyPop: Ada Hegerberg Returns to the International Stage

It’s a busy time for women’s soccer with the NWSL back underway and Champions League games taking place. This week a star returned to the international stage, Juventus knocked off Olympique Lyon, and the Washington Spirit started a Twitter feud. Here’s this week’s women’s soccer news.

High of the Week

After five years away, Ada Hegerberg is back with the Norwegian National Team. Hegerberg stepped away from the national team because of how the women’s game was treated in Norway. She stepped away to fight for equality for women’s soccer.

Low of the Week

Last weekend at the NC Courage and NJ/NY Gotham FC match, there was an incident between fans that involved racial discrimination. There’s no place for that, and thankfully the Courage took swift action.

Win of the Week

Juventus picked up a huge 2-1 over Lyon in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal matchup. Juventus had goals from Cristiana Girelli and Agnese Bonfantini. The second leg of that one is on Thursday, March 30, at 3:00 PM ET.

Goal of the Week

Hailie Mace had a terrific goal, blasting a rocket from outside the box. Mace’s goal brought Kansas City level with Chicago, a game that the Current would go on to win 2-1. It was KC’s first away win since returning to Kansas.

Fail of the Week

In Angel City’s’ second Challenge Cup game, Savannah McCaskill picked up a red card against OL Reign. The red was a harsh call to some, as she was already going to the ground before contact, but it was a dangerous tackle.

Social Post of the Week
