It’s a busy time for women’s soccer with the NWSL back underway and Champions League games taking place. This week a star returned to the international stage, Juventus knocked off Olympique Lyon, and the Washington Spirit started a Twitter feud. Here’s this week’s women’s soccer news.

Ada Hegerberg returns to Norway’s squad for the first time since 2017.
The 2018 Ballon d’Or winner previously left because she felt the federation wasn’t doing enough to support the women’s game.

After five years away, Ada Hegerberg is back with the Norwegian National Team. Hegerberg stepped away from the national team because of how the women’s game was treated in Norway. She stepped away to fight for equality for women’s soccer.

Last weekend at the NC Courage and NJ/NY Gotham FC match, there was an incident between fans that involved racial discrimination. There’s no place for that, and thankfully the Courage took swift action.
News of the Week
Former Portland Thorns midfielder Angela Salem has joined the Washington Spirit’s coaching staff. Salem played professionally for 12 years before hanging up her boots after the end of the 2021 season. She was a finalist for the league MVP award during her last season.

Juventus picked up a huge 2-1 over Lyon in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal matchup. Juventus had goals from Cristiana Girelli and Agnese Bonfantini. The second leg of that one is on Thursday, March 30, at 3:00 PM ET.

Hailie Mace had a terrific goal, blasting a rocket from outside the box. Mace’s goal brought Kansas City level with Chicago, a game that the Current would go on to win 2-1. It was KC’s first away win since returning to Kansas.

In Angel City’s’ second Challenge Cup game, Savannah McCaskill picked up a red card against OL Reign. The red was a harsh call to some, as she was already going to the ground before contact, but it was a dangerous tackle.
