This week, FC Barcelona took on Real Madrid at Camp Nou in a Champion’s league match that ended up breaking a world record. More Challenge Cup action went down, with the San Diego Wave earning their first win, and overall just a lot of great goals being scored. Unfortunately, the preseason injuries continue to pile up in the NWSL, especially among high-profile players. So, without further ado, here’s this week’s women’s soccer news.

It was a tough week for season-ending injuries in the NWSL. Marta announced that she suffered a knee injury against the North Carolina Courage, Tierna Davidson suffered a torn ACL in practice, and Lynn Williams will also be out for the season with a leg injury. The number of season-ending injuries before the regular season has even begun is staggering. It begs many questions about the scheduling of the NWSL season and if these players need more prolonged and more frequent breaks.
