FootyPop: Nadia Nadim is Back in Action for Racing Louisville!

Summertime is in full swing, and so is the NWSL, with a ton of action this week. There was a long-awaited return, some bad news out of Louisville, a retirement announcement, and more. Hereโ€™s this weekโ€™s womenโ€™s soccer news.ย

During the match against the North Carolina Courage, Nadia Nadim returned to the field for Racing Louisville. Nadim tore her ACL last September against the Orlando Pride.ย 

 

Low of the Week

Racing Louisville was provided practice fields in Kansas City that they say werenโ€™t up to the standards of a professional league. During practice, a falling goal injured backup goalkeeper, Jordyn Bloomer, and itโ€™s unclear how long sheโ€™ll be out. If the field conditions were as bad as Racing has said, then the league has got to do better.ย

NJ/NY Gotham FC defender Gina Lewandowski has announced her retirement from professional soccer. Her last game will be on July 2, when Gotham hosts the Chicago Red Stars. Lewandowski joined Gotham in 2019 after spending most of her career with Bayern Munich.ย

Nichelle Prince had quite the game for the Houston Dash this week. Prince scored the first hattrick in Dash history in Houstonโ€™s impressive 5-0 win over the Orlando Pride. The forward snagged two goals in the first half and added another to start the second. The win put Houston in second place with 11 points.ย 

 

Goal of the Week

Kelli Hubly got the scoring started for Portland with a beautifully taken header in the top of the net. The Thorns went on to win that game 3-0 over Angel City.ย

Another womenโ€™s soccer baby! Chicago Red Stars forward Kealia Watt and her husband JJ Watt announced that they are expecting their first child in October.ย
