Low of the Weekend

The Netherlands, the defending Womenโ€™s EURO champions, was just eliminated from the tournament in a 1-0 loss to France. They didnโ€™t have the best performance even though they were expected to have a great run, partially due to the absence of star Vivianna Miedema at the start of the tournament. The game against France was much the same, a ton of defending and incredible saves. But, in the end, a penalty was the thing that stopped the game from heading to PKs. It was a good call, but still disappointing to see the reigning champs go down like this.ย

Fail of the Weekend

Germany beat Austria last week 2-0 in the Womenโ€™s EURO. Germany definitely showed as the better team, but until the last minute of the match, the scoreline was only 1-0. Austria tried to play out the back repeatedly in the match, with little success. Germany pressed hard on this goal kick, which resulted in this goal, unfortunately for Austria.ย

Goal of the Weekendย

England beat Spain 2-1 in overtime during the Womenโ€™s EURO quarterfinals last week. Spain was up 1-0 until the end of the second half when Ella Toone took matters into her own hands and put one in the back of the net. Then, in the seventh minute of overtime, Georgia Stanway unleashed a cracking goal that sealed the deal for England. The stands were going crazy as England is the host country!
