The October international break was last week, so it was a week of international friendlies and World Cup qualifiers. Canada had their first home game in 29 months against New Zealand. For the start of their Olympic Celebration Tour, they won 5-1. The USWNT played South Korea, Mexico played Argentina, Australia played Brazil, and much more. As the NWSL is coming to the final stretch, this next week will be jam-packed full of games. Additionally, on Tuesday, we will see the GOAT of women’s soccer, Carli Lloyd, play her final match for the USWNT in their second friendly against Korea Republic. Check it all out in this week’s women’s soccer news.

This past weekend, after Thursday night’s friendly between the USWNT and Korea Republic, forward Carli Lloyd handed over her iconic number 10 jersey to Lindsey Horan. After Lloyd’s final game on Tuesday, Horan will take over the number.
When asked who Horan would give her number to, she said she’d leave it a surprise. Additionally, it was Lindsey Horan’s 100th cap for the USWNT.
Low of the Weekend
A look back at tonight's action ? pic.twitter.com/Cg1vwYDiab
— U.S. Soccer WNT (@USWNT) October 22, 2021
The low of the weekend is the United States 0-0 draw against Korea Republic. The tie saw the USWNT’s 22 home game win streak broken and 60 game scoring streak broken.
However, the bright side is that it’s great to see that women’s soccer is growing and progressing in South Korea and that they delivered some tough competition to the US. In addition, there was some stellar goalkeeping from South Korea, and it’ll be exciting to see their friendly rematch on Tuesday this week.
News of the Weekend
Angel City FC announced the Fan-Fueled Player Fund. The way it works is that 1% of ticket revenue from their home games will go directly to ACFC players who participate in the team’s marketing initiatives. This means that fans are directly supporting the players, and thousands of dollars could go to each player on the team. Nearly 11,000 tickets have been sold already.

In NCAA news, number six ranked Duke University upset the number one ranked Florida State Seminoles 1-0.
It was a great play by Duke. Even though Tess Boade shot the ball almost directly at the goalkeeper, it was with a ton of power and force that FSU’s keeper could stop it from crossing the goal line.

Yes, another bicycle kick goal… this time from Pitt women’s soccer. We saw a bicycle kick goal from Colorado during their game against Stanford last week, and we see another this week. The University of Pittsburgh secured a 3-0 win against Boston College, including this amazing goal.

Cedella Marley’s Football is Freedom event happened this past week. Costa Rica played Jamaica at the DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale. The match ended in a 0-0 draw, with a lot of great chances and saves. Particularly Costa Rica’s keeper, Daniella Solera, showed up big time and made some incredible saves to keep the score 0-0.
