Our first on our list of NCAA rookies to watch is Elise Evans. Evans is the No. 1 recruit in this freshman class, according to TopDrawerSoccer. After a terrific youth career, the defender was named the 2022 Gatorade California State Player of the Year. She played her club career with San Jose Earthquakes Girls Development Academy and FC Bay Area Surf.

She’ll be a key player for this Cardinals team that’s looking to win the Pac-12 after finishing fourth last season.

Tori DellaPeruta – UNC

DellaPeruta spent her youth days with TopHat Soccer Club and the United Football Academy, an ECNL club. The forward is a terrific goalscorer and will look to continue that trend with North Carolina in the ACC. DellaPeruta joins her older sister, Talia at UNC.

She spent the 2022 season with Pomigliano C.F. in Italy. Pomigliano is a club in the Serie A Division of Italy.

Olivia Smith – Penn State

Smith is a player that brings a lot of excitement to Penn State. She’s been representing Canada at the youth level since she was 12. At just 15 years old, she became the youngest player to earn a cap for the senior Canadian National team. The midfielder was originally committed to Florida State but flipped to Penn State.

She joins an impressive Penn State team that’s No. 2 nationally in the preseason rankings.

Purcell is an impressive goalkeeper in a terrific UCLA recruiting class. She played her youth career at OL Reign Academy. She might not earn the starting spot as a freshman, with Lauren Brzykcy returning for her fifth year. But she could see minutes, and we’ll likely see her step into that starting role next season.

She’s currently a U-20 U.S. Youth National Team member at the U-20 FIFA World Cup.

Annie Karich – Santa Clara

Karich comes to Santa Clara from Beach FC. She also spent time with Blues SC in ECNL. The midfielder brings a good bit of youth national team experience, having represented the U.S. at the U-15, U-17, and U-20 levels. She’ll be an essential player for this Broncos team who lost the likes of Kelsey Turnbow and Alex Loera.

Gianna Paul – Alabama

Paul is one of five incoming freshmen for Alabama. The forward played for SUSA FC Academy before making her way to the SEC. She comes to an Alabama team looking to improve on last season, where they finished with an 11-10-1 record and third overall in the Western Conference. Paul could be a terrific addition to this Crimson Tide attack.
