8 NCAA Rookies to Watch Out For This Season

With the fall season upon us, it means that women’s college soccer is back. It’s an exciting time in college soccer, with many talented players throughout each league.

Here’s our list of eight first-year students you should pay attention to during the 2023-24 season.

 

Cameron Roller – Duke

Roller is a defender from Texas who joined Duke as the top-ranked defender and fifth-ranked recruit in the 2023 class, according to TopDrawerSoccer. She played club soccer at Solar Soccer Club in the ECNL.

The defender has experience representing the United States on the international stage with the U-17s. She captained the U-17 USYNT during the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

 

Melina Rebimbas – North Carolina

Rebimbas had a decorated high school career in New Jersey. She played club soccer for PDA while also playing at Rutgers Prep. She represented the United States at the youth stage at the U-17 level and was also part of the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup team. Earlier this year, she was the Gatorade State Player of the Year.

She got her first collegiate goal against Cal in just her second game for the Tar Heels.

 

Hannah Poulter – USC

Poulter is a goalkeeper from England. She’s represented England at the youth level with the U-16, U-17, and U-18 teams. As a freshman, she’s started every game so far for the Trojans. She’s earned two wins while only conceding two goals so far this season.

 

Joelle Jung – Stanford

Jung enrolled early at Stanford, and she’s already made an impact this season. Through five games, she’s scored two goals, both of which were game-winners, and she’s also got two assists.

She played her club soccer with Mtn. View Los Altos SC, where she won two ECNL national titles. In 2022, she played in the WPS with the MVLA Wolves. The midfielder also represents the United States at the youth level.

 

Jordyn Crosby – Santa Clara

Crosby is another player who’s already made an impact on the collegiate stage. The forward has scored two goals this season against Oregon State and Washington; both of her goals were game-winners—the forward played club soccer at United Futbol Academy in Georgia.

 

Naomi Clark – Washington State

Clark played club soccer with Real Colorado in ECNL, the same club team that Mallory Swanson played at. She scored a hat trick for her high school team that secured them the state championship in 2022.

She made an impact in her first games, scoring a goal in the first two matches for the Cougars.

 

Victoria Safradin – Virginia

The goalkeeper has started only one match so far for the Cavaliers, but she’s an impressive addition to the Virginia squad. She played club soccer with Internationals Soccer Club and was the top-ranked goalkeeper in the 2023 class, according to TopDrawerSoccer. She also represents the United States at the youth level.

 

Kayla Briggs – Providence

Last on our list of NCAA rookies to watch is Kayla Briggs. Briggs is a forward from Toronto, Canada, and she’s been great for Providence in their first two games. She tallied four assists, with two in each match.

She represents Canada at the youth level, participating in the CONCACAF U-20 Women’s Championships and Qualification Tournament and the U-17 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
